In a variety of benchmarks kicking things off, Fedora Server 42 was running competitively on this 5th Gen AMD EPYC server with 256-cores / 512-threads. In some cases Ubuntu 25.04 was delivering an edge over Fedora 42.

In some cases there isn't much uplift from Fedora 41 to Fedora 42 due to the stable updates bringing in a newer kernel and other improvements already to that existing Fedora version.

Being the first major Linux distribution shipping GCC 15 by default in a near-final state ahead of GCC 15.1 has its benefits. In built-from-source workloads like the Kvazaar H.265 encoder was a noticeable advantage on Fedora Server 42 compared to the other Linux distributions tested on this AMD EPYC Zen 5 server.
