8-Way Linux OS Comparison On The Framework 12: Squeezing More Performance Out Of Raptor Lake
Out of the dozens of benchmarks run for this out-of-the-box Linux distribution comparison on the Framework 12 Laptop powered by Intel Raptor Lake, the fastest was Intel's own Clear Linux platform with a first place finish 28% of the time followed by CachyOS with a first place finish 23% of the time and then Debian 13 Testing at 21%.
When taking the geometric mean of all the benchmarks that ran successfully on all tested Linux distributions, CachyOS edged into the top spot followed by Clear Linux and then Arch Linux and Debian 13. Those four plus openSUSE Tumbleweed all performed noticeably better than Ubuntu 24.04 LTS / Ubuntu 25.04 and Fedora Workstation 42 on this 10-core Intel-powered convertible laptop.
All eight of these Linux distribution releases did provide nice out-of-the-box support though for the Framework 12 Laptop. Thanks to Framework Computer for having provided the Framework 12 review sample for making these ongoing tests possible.
