GCC 15 Compiler Showing Off Nice Performance Improvements On AMD Zen 5
The application seeing the biggest performance difference from being built by the GCC 15 compiler was the Liquid-DSP digital signal processing / software defined radio library. Liquid-DSP on this AMD EPYC Turin server was seeing 23~38% better performance than the same software built on GCC 14.
Memcached was the only other workload tested showing above a 20% improvement from the upgraded GNU Compiler Collection on this AMD Zen 5 system.
The OpenMP-threaded GraphicsMagick was seeing some hearty wins too when compiled by GCC 15 rather than the GCC 14 compiler that debuted last year.
GCC 14 brought initial AMD Zen 5 "znver5" support while GCC 15 at large is looking to be a very nice improvement for this annual compiler upgrade.
