Google Cloud N4 Series Benchmarks: Google Axion vs. Intel Xeon vs. AMD EPYC Performance
For workloads that have been optimized for ARM64 and scale well, the Google Axion N4A instance can perform quite well over the N4D and N4 instances thanks to the 16 physical cores versus 8 + HT/SMT for the Intel and AMD 16 vCPU N4 class instances.
The N4A Axion performance was particularly compelling in the performance-per-dollar for such workloads with the N4A instances costing less than either the AMD EPYC or Intel Xeon VMs of the same 16 vCPU size.
The N4D instance was consistently faster than the Intel Xeon powered N4 instance though as a reminder Google is using Intel Xeon Emerald Rapids processors for the N4 series where as Granite Rapids is the latest P-core Xeon series. Even so the Intel Emerald Rapids based instances were priced higher than the AMD EPYC Turin VMs.
