Intel Arc B390 Graphics Performance On Linux With Panther Lake

The generational gains from Lunar Lake to Panther Lake with the 12 Xe core Xe3 graphics is pretty wild: on a geo mean basis the Core Ultra X7 358H was at 1.53x the performance of the Core Ultra 7 258V Lunar Lake laptop! Or over Meteor Lake with the Core Ultra 7 155H it was at 1.72x the performance. Compared to the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 competition, the Xe3 graphics with the Core Ultra X7 358H was at 1.23x the performance overall. A very nice finish for the Core Ultra X7 358H -- after working through the default/out-of-the-box (balanced) performance compared to allowing for properly leveraging the SoC with the performance mode workaround. The AMD Ryzen AI Max "Strix Halo" graphics would come out ahead of Panther Lake but, unfortunately, no review hardware for being able to provide the up-to-date performance numbers.

The Core Ultra X7 358H came out on a geo mean basis to 1.23x the performance of the Radeon 890M graphics with Strix Halo but at 1.25x the power consumption on average. The peak power consumption was also around 1.25x that of the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. So rather even on a performance-per-Watt basis overall. When starting things in the default balanced mode out-of-the-box, the power use average was 16.9 Watts until jumping up to 28 Watts with the workarounds as noted.

While those are the main results, with some additional more laxed graphics benchmarks I also did a 1080p integrated graphics comparison going back further with more laptops:

- Core i7 1280P - MSI Prestige 14Evo
- Core i5 1334U - Framework 12
- Core Ultra 7 155H - Acer Swift 14
- Core Ultra 7 256V - Zenbook S14
- Core Ultra 7 258V - ThinkPad X1 Carbon G13
- Core Ultra X7 358H - MSI Prestige 14 - Perf
- Ryzen 7 PRO 6850U - ThinkPad X13 G3
- Ryzen 7 7840U - Acer Swift SFE16-43
- Ryzen 7 PRO 7840U - ThinkPad P14s G4
- Ryzen AI 5 340 - HP OmniBook 5
- Ryzen AI 9 365 - Zenbook S16
- Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 - Zenbook S16

Here are those comparison benchmark results.
