It didn't take long to see that the Latency Optimized Mode could help in some workloads for delivering slightly better performance...

But for the improvement in performance did come significant increases to power consumption. The Giga Computing server with two Xeon 6980P processors in this OpenRadioss benchmark went from a 925 Watt average to 1014 Watts with the Latency Optimized Mode enabled.

The Latency Optimized Mode new to Xeon 6 was beneficial especially for the OpenJDK Java workloads that don't fully scale out to fully stress all the cores of the Xeon 6980P 2P configuration. There was significant speed-ups but also much higher power use with this Intel Latency Optimized Mode.
