Linux 6.17 With EXT4 Showing Some Nice Performance Improvements
The ClickHouse database performance has been incrementally improving on newer Linux kernel releases.
MariaDB was showing off some read/write performance improvements when running on Linux 6.17 Git.
PostgreSQL is also showing off some incremental performance improvements when running on Linux 6.17 compared to prior kernels for delivering higher throughput and lower latency.
The EXT4 performance on Linux 6.17 is looking good as is the Linux 6.17 performance overall from the few systems I have been testing so far with this development kernel. More benchmarks are ongoing in leading up to the Linux 6.17 stable release by late September or early October. A larger file-system comparison will also be coming up given the now-frozen state of upstream Bcachefs and there also being some Btrfs optimizations to explore too for Linux 6.17.
