Linux 6.17 File-System Benchmarks, Including OpenZFS & Bcachefs
For 4K random reads with one job count, XFS / EXT4 / F2FS were all the fastest with FIO. The copy-on-write Btrfs was a ways behind while Bcachefs and OpenZFS in this out-of-the-box/default single-SSD comparison were both much slower than the rest.
When running 32 jobs simultaneously, OpenZFS and Bcachefs were comparatively more competitive to the other file-systems but still much slower. F2FS had a very narrow first place finish ahead of XFS and EXT4.
For a single job of 4K random writes, XFS was the fastest followed by EXT4 and then F2FS and Btrfs.
With 32 jobs, XFS was still delivering the fastest random writes along with EXT4.
When moving away from direct writes, Bcachefs was performing better relative to OpenZFS for this FIO random write benchmark.
