Now are some CPU-focused tests...
For the MAFFT benchmark, Ubuntu Linux did much better than OS X on the Intel Core i5 "Sandy Bridge" system. Apple's Xcode development environment now defaults to LLVM/Clang 3.1 by default for its C/C++ compiler where as Ubuntu Linux remains faithful to GCC. Ubuntu 12.04 LTS has GCC 4.6 and Ubuntu 12.10 moves to GCC 4.7.
The GraphicsMagick results heavily favor the GCC-based operating system since LLVM/Clang still lacks OpenMP support.
