The 7-Zip compression performance between the Apple and Canonical operating systems were close.
The C-Ray multi-threaded ray-tracing performance between Mac OS X 10.7.4 and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS was nearly the same, but GCC 4.7 on Ubuntu 12.10 vastly ups the performance -- something that has been pointed out in other Phoronix articles with GCC 4.7 doing really well for C-Ray.
The OpenSSL benchmark favors Linux.
