Mesa 25.2 NVK vs. NVIDIA R575 Linux Graphics Performance For GeForce RTX 40 Series

When taking the geometric mean of the dozens of benchmarks ran in total, here is the geometric mean breakdown for this Nouveau+Mesa vs. NVIDIA R575 Linux comparison:

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER on the upstream open-source driver was around 47% the speed of the official NVIDIA R575 Linux driver while the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER was at around 45% the speed of the official NVIDIA Linux driver.

There still is a great deal of work to be done on the Nouveau+Mesa open-source NVIDIA driver stack for being competitive with performance. We'll see how much the future NOVA kernel driver ultimately is able to help out with performance but long story short those using modern NVIDIA GPUs are best off for now continuing to use the packaged NVIDIA Linux driver stack for the more robust features and performance.
