NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 On Linux: OpenGL, OpenCL, Vulkan Performance
When looking at the performance-per-Watt in the Furmark torture test, the GTX 1080 jumped ahead to delivering 63% greater performance-per-Watt in this scenario! Of course, at 63% this is one of the extremes.
When running these performance-per-Watt tests, here's a look at the overall AC system power consumption range during the benchmarking process on each of these graphics cards. The GTX 1080 installed in this Xeon E3-1280 v5 system had an overall average power use of 173 Watts with a peak of 241 Watts. The GTX 980 Ti for example had an average power draw of 224 Watts and a peak of 315 Watts. The Radeon R9 Fury had an average power draw of 213 Watts but with a peak of 445 Watts.
The Phoronix Test Suite was also monitroing the GPU core temperature during this time too, using the MONITOR=gpu.temp environment variable to trigger our system_monitor module.
The GTX 1080 during this OpenGL/OpenCL testing had an average temperature of 62 Celsius with a peak of 77 Celsius.
Those wanting to dig through all of the performance-per-Watt, system power consumption, and thermal data can find the results via this OpenBenchmarking.org result file.
