The Zstandard compression performance was another one of the permitted workloads for Vera testing given all the customer interest these days in Zstd. Sure enough, Vera is a heck of a lot faster than Grace for Zstd compression. Grace was the slowest of the tested CPUs while now Vera is easily the fastest with the compression level of 3 for speedy real-time performance needs.

The decompression story was less impressive but still nice gen-on-gen gains and coming ahead of the Intel Xeon 6 Granite Rapids flagship.

Or if wanting maximum compression, Zstd at its highest compression level of 19 saw the compression performance nearly double from Grace to Vera. Vera was also much faster than the Intel Xeon 6980P server and performing similarly to the AMD EPYC 9005 series CPUs tested.

Zstd with compression level 19 and long mode saw even more competitive performance out of Vera against EPYC Turin with the high frequency SKUs for compression speed.

For the Lua JIT performance was also great gen-on-gen performance gains from Grace to Vera and dancing with EPYC Turin while demolishing Granite Rapids.
