AMD Radeon RX 9000 Series vs. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 Open-Source Linux Performance For 2025
With 3DMark Wild Life Extreme is a newer issue I encountered for AMD Radeon graphics this time where the proprietary native Linux benchmark was seg faulting on Radeon graphics but working fine on NVIDIA -- including for NVK. The RADV driver previously worked fine with 3DMark Wild Life. The Nouveau vs. NVIDIA R580 performance here had the GeForce RTX 5090 on Nouveau still performing around the speed of the GeForce RTX 5070 on the R580 driver.
Solar Bay Extreme is 3DMark's newest benchmark with a native Linux port. 3DMark SOlay Bay Extreme depends upon Vulkan ray-tracing on Linux and thus puts NVK currently off-limits for running. As you can see from these benchmark results, while RADV is working out the performance is slow relative to the NVIDIA Blackwell graphics cards on R580: the Radeon RX 9070 XT coming in well short of the GeForce RTX 5070.
