The newer GCC compiler does cause slower build times due to more optimization passes.

Surprisingly in some tests like PHP and Git, the out-of-the-box openSUSE Leap 15.0 performance on this i9-7980XE box was slightly lower than with 42.3.

The Zstd compression performance was running a little bit faster on the newer openSUSE.

The TinyMemBench resilts with the memory copy performance was significantly faster with the newer openSUSE.

Stay tuned to Phoronix for more openSUSE benchmarks from more systems as well as the larger Linux distribution comparison that is forthcoming. Long story short though for now, openSUSE Leap 15.0 has been running well overall and the many upgrades found in this release derived from SUSE Linux Enterprise 15 are quite exciting.
