Windows vs. Linux Benchmarks For AMD Ryzen Server Performance

For H.265 video encoding with Kvazaar, Windows performed in line with many of the other Linux distributions but Intel's Clear Linux yielded the fastest performance on this AMD Ryzen 9 5950X server.

For the Intel / AO Media SVT-AV1 video encoder, Clear Linux yielded the fastest performance here while Windows 11 was the slowest. AMD Ryzen servers can make a lot of sense for video encoding/transcoding boxes on a budget due to the highly threaded encoders. With the Intel Xeon E-2300 series still maxing out at 8 cores / 16 threads, the higher-end Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 9 servers can offer significant performance and cost advantages over the Xeon E line-up for budget video encoding as shown in last week's comparison review.
