Benchmarks Of The Gentoo-based Sabayon
The MAFFT molecular biology benchmark performed at close to the same speeds for Sabayon 4.2, Sabayon 5.1, and Kubuntu 9.10.
Sabayon 5.1 managed an ever so slight lead over Kubuntu 9.10 and Sabayon 4.2 with the PostMark benchmark.
Ending out are the Bullet Physics Engine results for Sabayon and Kubuntu, which were not too interesting.
The Gentoo-based Sabayon Linux distribution had advantages over Kubuntu particularly when it came to the graphics performance (OpenArena and World of Padman), PostgreSQL, and PostMark while Kubuntu had its advantages in 7-Zip, Apache, LAME MP3, and John The Ripper. In the other tests, the results were very close between Sabayon and Kubuntu with no clear winner. This article was written to just give a broad performance look at Sabayon Linux compared to Kubuntu/Ubuntu, but more tests can be ran on either of these Linux distributions (or any Linux / Mac OS X / BSD / OpenSolaris OS) using the Phoronix Test Suite.
