Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite Benchmarks On Ubuntu Linux vs. AMD vs. Intel
Treat this as just the preliminary benchmarks for the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite on Linux. As mentioned there isn't the CPU/SoC power monitoring ability at the moment under Linux so can't compare the X1E-78-100 to the AMD Ryzen and Intel Core power findings. Additionally, various feature limitations and the recurring thermal issues with the Acer Swift 14 AI led to having to restart the benchmarking process routinely and limiting many of the benchmarks to one run to avoid the thermal/power issues. Compared to starting out the AMD Ryzen and Intel Core laptop testing with around 200 benchmarks on Ubuntu 25.04, the number of tests was also significantly reduced to limit it to tests that are AArch64 supported/native and not relying on any emulation or similar. For those curious about x86_64 performance on AArch64 emulation for Snapdragon X Elite, that will be its own separate article on Phoronix. As the Snapdragon X Elite support continues to mature on Linux, I'll carry out more benchmarks.
With the Speedometer 3.0 browser benchmark in Firefox, the Snapdragon X Elite on Ubuntu 25.04 was performing better than on 24.10 with the X1E concept image... The Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite on Ubuntu 25.04 like the AMD/Intel laptops was competing similar to the AMD Ryzen 7 7840U -- not bad for being the competition one year ago but behind the performance of Intel Lunar Lake and Meteor Lake and the AMD Zen 5 SoCs.
The Firefox browser performance was decent but again unfortunately being unable to compare the CPU power use at this point with the Snapdragon X Elite on Linux.
Intel Lunar Lake led in most of the Linux laptop web browser benchmarks. Intel Lunar Lake is a big step forward against Snapdragon X Elite's power efficiency in general and that Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura Edition runs great on Linux out-of-the-box unlike the Acer Swift 14 AI.
Most often in these Firefox AArch64 benchmarks the Snapdragon X Elite was performing around AMD and Intel laptops one to three generations old.
