Snapdragon X Elite Laptop Performance On Linux Ends 2025 Disappointing
The Speedometer 3.0 browser performance in Firefox 136 was around the same as the testing in September. It's much better off than the Ubuntu 24.10 based X1E Concept image where I originally started testing this Snapdragon X1E laptop.
The Jetstream 2 browser performance has been rather unchanged when using the same AArch64 Firefox throughout.
WebAssembly benchmarks were showing similar performance to the Linux kernel / OS state from September and far better off than earlier this year.
But when moving to the more demanding workloads is where noticeable performance regressions became noticeable for this same Acer Swift 14 AI laptop testing.
Especially with multi-threaded workloads the latest Ubuntu 25.10 + Linux 6.18 performance on the Snapdragon X Elite was showing clear slowdowns compared to September's testing.
With SVT-AV1 and other video encoders the clear extent of the performance regression became very clear. In some cases this updated Ubuntu 25.10 X1E stack was losing all of the performance gains shown during earlier testing.
