Snapdragon X Elite Laptop Performance On Linux Ends 2025 Disappointing
There were many clear-cut performance drops when running Ubuntu 25.10 ARM64 + Linux 6.18 X1E on this Acer Swift 14 AI laptop. After making gains over the summer, it's unfortunate that in the current state many of these performance improvements have been lost.
Not every workload was regressed.
On a geo mean basis with around 100 benchmarks the December 2025 performance of this Snapdragon X Elite laptop was back to around where it was performing back in May with Ubuntu 25.04 X1E. The September state of the X1E packages was around 17% faster than it is now with the latest Ubuntu 25.10 + X1E PPA packages. Unfortunately the Snapdragon X Elite on Linux isn't exposing any CPU/SoC power consumption data via HWMON, PowerCap, or similar for being able to compare the power consumption to see if differences there are causing the slowdown in performance.
