With Batman: Arkham Knight running on Linux under Steam Play, there was virtually no performance difference for the Radeon VII across the different environments tested.

DiRT Rally 2.0, also running on Linux under Steam Play, did see sizable performance hits running on XWayland with both GNOME and KDE sessions as well as the Sway compositor. Between the X.Org-based environments, there were a few frames lower results on Xfce and MATE.

With the open-source ET: Legacy game letting Enemy Territory live on, the performance was virtually flat.

The HITMAN Linux-native OpenGL-rendered game performance was also looking good with no measurable difference between the different setups on this AMD Linux gaming box.
