Wow, the Ubuntu 9.04 Beta certainly has the upper hand on Fedora 11 when it comes to the compilation speed. Ubuntu 9.04 is using GCC 4.3.3 while Leonidas is running with the latest GCC 4.4.0 code. Regressions or performing additional optimizations in GCC 4.4.0 may be attributed to the slowdown in the compilation speed and that Fedora Rawhide has various debugging options enabled.

The LAME MP3 encoding performance was pretty even between Fedora 11 and Ubuntu 9.04, but the Red Hat distribution was faster by about one second.

The FLAC encoding performance was also very close and statistically even.
