Ubuntu 9.04 Beta vs. Fedora 11 Beta Performance
Even though there are greater optimizations in the Linux 2.6.29 kernel for the OpenMP-based GraphicsMagick program (as our Linux 2.6.24 through 2.6.29 benchmarks found), the 2.6.28-based Ubuntu 9.04 was faster than Fedora 11 Beta in this test with HWB color space conversion.
Ubuntu 9.04 was also faster at local adaptive thresholding with GraphicsMagick 1.3.3.
The bwfirt test profile is new to the Phoronix Test Suite 1.8 "Selbu" version, but it's a benchmark designed to measure ray-tracing performance particularly when it comes to realistic light transport algorithms through physically based light simulation. With this first ray-tracing test, the performance of Ubuntu 9.04 and Fedora 11 were equal.
