First Benchmarks Of Windows 11 25H2 vs. Ubuntu 25.10 On AMD Ryzen 9 9950X
As mentioned today's article is looking mainly at the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X performance across operating systems. Fresh Windows vs. Linux GPU comparison tests will come separately. Additionally, a Windows 11 vs. Linux AI performance article is another avenue being explored in its own separate and very interesting article.
Most of the workloads focused on for these Windows 11 25H2 vs. Ubuntu 25.10 CPU benchmarks are around creator workloads. To no real surprise, Linux continues to lead over Windows 11.
There wasn't much change in performance from Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS to Ubuntu 25.10 on this AMD Ryzen 9 desktop. Similarly, not much performance change either going from Windows 11 24H2 to the preview release of Windows 11 25H2.
The 16-core AMD Ryzen 9 9950X was performing well on both operating systems but leading results with Ubuntu Linux. Of course, alternatives like Arch Linux based CachyOS or the now-defunct Clear Linux have the potential of even more aggressive performance over what Ubuntu ships out-of-the-box.
