The first conversation of the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Ruslan Stefanchuk, following the election of the leadership of the Senate and the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of the Netherlands confirmed that support for Ukraine will remain consistent and effective.

During a video conference with the President of the Senate of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, May Li Vos, and the President of the House of Representatives, Thom van Campen, Ruslan Stefanchuk thanked them for their political support, their contribution to strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities, in particular for the Netherlands’ leadership within the PURL initiative, as well as for their continued attention to the issue of Ukrainian children illegally deported by russia.

The parties also discussed the issue of the aggressor’s responsibility under international law — the establishment of a Special Tribunal and the launch of a compensation mechanism. The discussion also covered Ukraine’s contribution to Europe’s security, given its unique experience in countering russian threats.

Ruslan Stefanchuk emphasised that Ukraine highly appreciates the consistent support of the Netherlands for its European integration and reaffirmed its readiness to implement all necessary reforms to complete preparations for EU accession by 2027. He also expressed hope for the Netherlands’ support in the swift unblocking of the negotiation process.

The Dutch side noted the productive work of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine under wartime conditions: since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Parliament has continued to function and adopt decisions important for the state.

The parties also exchanged invitations for mutual visits in order to further strengthen interparliamentary cooperation.
