Shape the Future of Space Technology with NASA

The feedback window has closed. Thank you for your your valuable feedback to the Civil Space Shortfalls.

Introduction

NASA is refining its strategy for prioritizing technology investments, to evolve into a stronger and more resilient national tech base for civil space. The agencyโ€™s Space Technology Mission Directorate (STMD) leads the development, demonstration, and infusion of transformational technologies to solve critical stakeholder needs.

STMD is positioned to innovate and advance solutions for ambitious future space missions with the support of diverse collaborators across the country.

NASA invites you to contribute to the prioritization of technology shortfalls critical to civil space. Your feedback will help shape the future of space technology

How to Participate

Register

Sign up to participate. After registering, youโ€™ll be able to access the Technology Shortfalls Prioritization Feedback Form.

Review Shortfalls

Each includes its title, associated need statements which provide a lower level of detail for each shortfall, and reference links where applicable.

Provide Your
Insights

Rank up to your top 15 shortfalls in order of priority. The shortfalls will be presented in randomized order for each participant.

Save and Submit Your
Feedback by February 20

Share your perspectives on the shortfalls. You may also provide optional comments for each shortfall.

Shortfall

An identified technology area requiring further development to meet future exploration, science, and other mission needs.

Your Role

NASA has identified a list of 32 technology shortfalls and invites you to give input on your critical technology needs using this feedback mechanism.

Whether youโ€™re part of the space technology community or an interested member of the public, your input is invaluable. By registering and providing your feedback, youโ€™ll help inform of national space technology priorities. NASA will analyze and aggregate the rankings to produce priority lists for each stakeholder group, which will be made publicly available for continued collaboration.

This prioritization framework will guide NASA Technologyโ€™s evaluation of current development efforts to identify necessary adjustments within its existing portfolios. The shortfall prioritization process may inspire new investments within NASA or spark innovative partnerships with external stakeholders. This initiative also has the potential to unlock emerging commercial opportunities and accelerate growth in the U.S. space economy.

Understanding and prioritizing the most important and impactful efforts allows STMD to appropriately direct available resources to best support mission needs for NASA and the nation.

Complete the Feedback Form

The platform presents a set of 32 technology shortfalls. Each shortfall includes essential information to support your understanding and assessment.

Youโ€™ll have the opportunity to rank up to your top 15 shortfalls in order of priority and optionally provide comments on each shortfall.
