Young Link in Project M
Young Link was one of the OK characters in Melee. He wasnโt that bad but he wasnโt anything to special. He was superior to Link, sure, but nobody even uses Link if they want to be on par with the best of the best.
However, in Project M, the Link of the Past gets some new material for mass destruction! Get ready for Young Link!
Specials
- Neutral Special: For Young Linkโs neutral special, I thought switching it up would be nice since Toon Link has Fire Arrows and Link has normal Arrows. Young Link should get Ice Arrows. Ice Arrows would operate just like the other arrows with two notable differences. Difference 1 isโฆ its ice. Difference 2 is how hard it hits. A chunk of ice rests on the tip of the arrow so getting it slammed into you would hurt. Therefore, its notably stronger than Link and Toon Linkโs arrows. However, it falls faster thanks to this so there is a nerf.
- Side Special: Side Special remains exactly the same, to be honest.
- Up Special: Up Special also remains the same.
- Down Special: Young Link can now pull bombs faster but they do less damage than before, however, have great combo potential.
Attacks
- Jab: Young Linkโs jab is nerfed as he can no longer infinite jab his opponents. Instead, its traded for a hard hitting final strike.
- Side Tilt: Young Linkโs Side Tilt now looks more like his Forward Throw. Young Link jabs his foot forward and slams it into his enemies. It has some ending lag, however.
- Up Tilt: Up Tilt remains the same.
- Down Tilt: Young Linkโs Down Tilt now functions more like Nessโ down tilt. The only difference is its slower but hits harder.
- Side Smash: Side Smash hits harder. Thatโs really all thatโs new.
- Up Smash: Instead of 3 slashes, Young Link now only does two. See what I did there? Toon Link does one, Young Link does two, Link does three!
- Down Smash: For the most part, Down Smash remains the same.
Aerials
- Neutral Air: Remains the same as in Melee.
- Forward Air: Again, remains the same.
- Down Air: Down Air basically functions like Linkโs from Smash 4.
- Back Air: This one is interesting. Young Links does an overhead slash that goes backwards. Basically, it starts at his head then rotates around and hits those who are behind him. Itโs a very powerful KO move.
Grabs
- Grab: This one works like Linkโs grab from Smash 64 now.
- Forward Throw: Instead of kicking his enemies, Young Link quickly jabs them causing them to fly forward.
- Back Throw: This launches them less but has better combo potential.
- Up Throw: Young Link pulls out a slingshot and throws the opponent up. He shoots them with a Deku Net.
- Down Throw: Remains the same from Melee.
Other
- Dash Attack: The Barrel Roll from Ocarina of Time shows up in this. It works like Donkey Kongโs Dash attack as it rolls of cliffs. Its hard hitting and good for off-stage attacks!
- Shield Rolls: Normally this doesnโt matter but now Young Linkโs rolls look like the sidesteps from Ocarina of Time.
- Wall Climb: Now Young Link can wall cling.
Taunts
- Up Taunt: Young Link drinks milk. โBut Toon Link does that.โ Turn that back into his one from Brawl where he looks at the screen. Oh and yes it should heal Young Link.
- Side Taunt: Young Link pulls out a random object and the famous Zelda jingle in which you open a chest plays. Young Link holds up and smiles.
- Down Taunt: Young Link puts on the Stone Mask and looks at the screen.
Final Smash
- Final Smash: Iโm lazy. Seriously, it should just remain the same as Link and Toon Linkโs. It should be Triforce Slash. It sends them at a slightly upward and forward angle, however.
Dr. Mario in Project M
In Melee, Dr. Mario was actually really good. He wasnโt a Fox or Falco but he was easily superior to Mario and Luigi.
Sadly, Project M has turned him into nothing more than a costume. Cruel fate for the Doctorโฆ until now! Dr. Mario returns with a new set of moves to combat his new opponents in Project M.
Specials
- Neutral Special: Honestly, I was originally just going for the same Neutral Special from Meleeโฆ but I wanted to be creative. Using his taunt, Dr. Mario can switch up his Megavitamins. Option #1 is the normal pill from Melee. Option #2 does not make the opponent flinch but gives them a flower on their head, slowly damaging them. Option #3 is a slow but hard hitting pill!
- Forward Special: Operates like his cape from Melee.
- Up Special: It also remains the same, however, hits harder.
- Down Special: I wanted to mix it up between Mario and Luigiโs. Its got slightly more recovery and slight combo potential.
Attacks
- Jab: Exactly the same as Melee.
- Forward Tilt: Exactly the same as Melee.
- Down Tilt: Exactly the same as Melee.
- Up Tilt: Exactly the same as Melee.
- Forward Smash: This one has some questionably poor range but makes up for it by hitting harder than Marioโs.
- Up Smash: One difference. Dar. Mario can DACUS.
- Down Smash: Exactly the same as Melee.
Aerials
- Neutral Air: Similar to Melee, this one gets stronger the longer its held out.
- Forward Air: Reversal of Melee. Doc gets the Marioโs sweetspot and keeps his sourspot.
- Back Air: This one is animated like Marioโs from Brawl just to make him look more different. It also hits harder.
- Down Air: Has a spike at the end.
- Up Air: Exactly the same as Melee.
Grabs
- Grab: Can now Dash Attack Cancel Grab.
- Pummel: Exactly the same from Melee.
- Up Forward Throw: More power.
- Back Throw: Exactly the same from Melee.
- Up Throw: More power but slower.
- Down Throw: Works like Warioโs. He butt slams them. Its not very strong but has combo potential.
Taunts
- Up Taunt: Dr. Mario pulls out a pill, flips it and catches it. Also, this taunt switches up the effects of his Megavitamins.
- Side Taunt: Steps on his foot.
- Down Taunt: Pats his shoulder.
Other
- Crawl: Dr. Mario can now crawl like Luigi.
- Crawl Tilt: He also gains a Crawl Tilt. He kicks in front of him, twice. The first hit barely has any knockback. The second hit sends them upwards, possibly leading into a forward air.
- Dash Attack: Can now DACUS and cancel into a grab.
Final Smash
- Final Smash: Iโm sorry but Iโm lazy. I know Nintendo might get mad but just take his final smash from Smash 4. If notโฆ make it rain pills from the sky. The pills would hit hard, do a lot of damage and last for ten seconds (is that too long or too short?).
