    #16017 new defect

Only one CPU usable Windows 10 Hyper-V Bug

    Reported by: horvan Owned by:
Component: host support Version: VirtualBox 5.1.6
Keywords: Windows 10, Hyper-V, CPU Cc:
Guest type: Linux Host type: Windows

    Description

Suddenly I couldn't select the amount of cpus to offer to a newly created virtual machine. Even old ones had only one cpu and wouldn't start anymore.

The issue seems to be related to a Hyper-V Installation on Windows 10 Pro. When you Install Hyper-V for some reason Virtual Box will be broken

    Reproduce

    1. Instll Virtual Box as usual on Windows 10 Pro
    2. Create a Machine with more than 1 Processor
    3. Now activate the Hyper-V Feature from the System Settings Programms and Features dialog
    4. Wait for Windows to complete tehe setup
    5. Try to change the amound of cpus used by your virtual machine in Virtualbox

The Feature should be grayed out now

So Hyper-V seems to break VirtualBox by now!

You can re enable the processor feature by uninstalling the Hyper-V feature in Windows 10 Pro

I am not sure if Windows 7 is also afected. Needs Teting

There is nothing to test. This is a well known problem as a 2-minute search either here or in the forums would have shown you. It's a Microsoft issue where they take over the VT-x and they don't allow anyone else to use it. From the FAQ: I have a 64bit host, but can't install 64bit guests.

For future reference, it's better/faster if crashes and other problems get first triaged in the forums (https://forums.virtualbox.org/). 95% of the issues are resolved over there, which keeps the developers focusing on the bug fixes and enhancements...
