Biography
Doctor, neurologist, discoverer of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis also known as Charcot disease or Lou Gehrig disease.
Jean Martin was born on 29 November 1825 in the former second arrondissement of Paris. He was the son of Simon Pierre Charcot and Jeanne Georgette Saussier. He married Victoire Augustine Laurent on 30 March 1864 in the ninth arrondissement of Paris. At the time of the marriage, Jean Martin was a medical doctor and had been decorated as chevalier de la légion d'honneur. He was living at 6 cité Trévise in Paris when he married. At that time, both of his parents were deceased.[1]
He was later promoted to officier in the légion d'honneur in 1880 on account of his work as a chief doctor at the Salpêtrière hospital in Paris, as well as his role of being a professor and a member of the Académie de Médecine. He was promoted once more to commandeur in 1892.[2] He died on 16 August 1893 at the Lac des Settons in Montsauche.[3]

Il a épousé Victoire Augustine Laurent le 30 mars 1864 à Paris (9ème arrondissement)[4].
