Request can be a noun or a verb.
used as a noun
When someone asks for something to be done or provided, you can say that they make a request.

You say that someone makes a request for something.
He agreed to my help.
used as a verb
When someone requests something, they ask for it.

Be careful
When request is a verb, don't use ‘for’ after it. Don't say, for example, ‘The President requested for an emergency meeting’.
In conversation and in less formal writing, you usually use ask for instead of ‘request’.
