If you're a creative professional who's ditched Adobe Creative Cloud or never bought into it in the first place, finding the right cloud storage can be a challenge. Adobe has tightly integrated cloud services built into its ecosystem, but what about the rest who don't use the suite? Video editors, designers, and artists need cloud storage that actually works with their workflow — not just a generic dumping ground for files.

Luckily, there are some great alternatives out there. I've rounded up some of my favorites as well as options that aren't just your standard "Google Drive or Dropbox" answers; these tools were made with creatives in mind.

Dropbox can be good, but you've got plenty of other options with a better storage capacity on the free tier.

5 Frame.io

For video editors and motion designers

If you're in the world of video editing like me, Frame.io is hands-down one of the best cloud storage solutions you can get. Originally built for filmmakers, Frame isn't just about storing your files — it's a review and collaboration tool as well. You can upload video projects, add frame-accurate comments, track revisions, and even integrate it directly with non-Adobe software like DaVinci Resolve and Final Cut Pro.

One of my favorite things about Frame is its real-time collaboration. If you're collaborating on an edit and want feedback from your teammates, they can leave comments directly on the video timeline. This is way more efficient than dealing with endless email or DM chains. Plus, with built-in versioning, you won't lose track of the changes.

Frame.io has a free plan with limited storage, so unfortunately, serious users will need to upgrade to a paid plan.

These 3 apps are the reason I subscribe to Adobe Creative Cloud

I'm not a big fan of Adobe's subscription model, but I still pay for it because it lets me access these three incredible apps

4 pCloud

For those who want a one-time payment option

pCloud lets you pay once and own your storage forever, but there are also free and subscription-based options. This alone makes it a great Adobe alternative, especially if you're tired of being locked into a never-ending software subscription.

Beyond the pricing model, pCloud is actually a solid storage solution. It has built-in media playback, file versioning, and an option to encrypt your files for extra security. You can access it through a web browser, desktop app, or mobile app, making it super flexible no matter what device you're using. But I always prefer accessing cloud storage through a web browser — no apps to keep track of.

While pCloud does have a free plan, the storage is somewhat limited (depending on what you use it for). The real value comes from the lifetime offers, which can get you anywhere from 500GB to 2TB of storage. If you're serious about ditching Adobe but still need a reliable space for your work, this is a fantastic choice.

3 Playbook

Best for designers and photographers

Playbook is a cloud storage solution built specifically for photographers, illustrators, and designers. Unlike traditional cloud storage, it prioritizes visuals so you can see everything and browse your files in a way that makes sense for creatives.

Something unique about Playbook is the built-in portfolio function. It lets you organize your work in a way that doubles as a professional presentation, making it a great tool for freelancers who want to share work with their clients without creating separate galleries or websites. It also integrates with apps like Picsart and other cloud tools like Dropbox, so it is an all-rounder for visual artists and creatives. The free plan is generous, with 100GB of storage.

2 Mudstack

Ideal for digital artists and game designers

If you're a digital artist who works with a lot of visual assets, Mudstack is a fantastic option. Unlike general cloud storage solutions, it's specifically designed for managing art assets, which makes it a great choice for illustrators, 3D artists, game designers, and others.

One of its top-selling points is version control. If you've ever found yourself drowning in endless file versions like "final_v3_reallyfinal_final4.psd", Mudstack simplifies this with an organized system that tracks revisions. It also supports tagging and categorization, so you don't have to waste time digging through folders.

There is a free plan for individuals, with paid options available for teams that need more tools and storage. I also recommend getting the desktop app for Mudstack if you want access to workspaces.

1 Iconik

Flexible cloud storage made with creators in mind

While not marketed as a cloud storage service, Iconik is a cloud asset management solution built with creatives in mind. It can also be used as cloud storage. It's got a bunch of useful features that make it a solid choice for photographers, designers, and videographers who need more than just a basic storage drive. But it still keeps your files organized and accessible. It boasts features like collaboration, hybrid cloud management, AI-powered tagging, and seamless integration with creative tools like Final Cut Pro.

Pricing-wise, the pay-as-you-go model is refreshingly reasonable, in my opinion, with no minimums or long-term commitments. This means that whether you're a solo creator or part of a team, you can scale up or down as your projects require without getting locked into anything.

If you've been using cloud storage providers for free, you might be worried about how safe they really are.

Creator-friendly cloud storage that doesn't lock you into the Adobe ecosystem

Just because you don't use Adobe Creative Cloud doesn't mean you must settle for generic cloud storage. There are options specifically designed for your niche, whether you're a video editor, animator, photographer, or just someone who needs a free and simple storage solution for creative projects. With so many options available, there's no reason to rely on Adobe for your projects if it's outside your budget or doesn't suit your needs. Pick the best one for you and enjoy a creative workflow that makes sense.
