Doom: The Dark Ages definitely left its mark on us. When we reviewed it back in mid-May, we gave it a shining 9/10 score, praising the new Shield Saw weapon and how brutal the combat can get. In fact, given how the review was written under three months ago, the digital dust hasn't even begun to settle on it.

4 gripes I had with Doom Eternal that The Dark Ages fixed

Doom Eternal remains one of my favorite games ever, but it still had its problems that The Dark Ages fixed for me.

Well, if you've been thinking about picking the game up but wanted to wait for a Steam sale first, I'm happy to say that your time has come. Doom: The Dark Ages has gone on discount already, and best of all, it's not even that small of a price reduction for the timeframe.

Why you should snag Doom: The Dark Ages during this Steam sale

Doom: The Dark Ages made a pretty bold move with the typical formula. While prior titles have had deep roots within science fiction, The Dark Ages made things a little more medieval with its style. And it seems to have paid off, as people praise its visuals and the new mechanisms that the genre bend allows for the title.

Here's what we said about the game in our review:

Doom: The Dark Ages is not Eternal 2. It’s something braver — a reimagining that honors its roots while forging a new path. It’s bloodier, slower, moodier — and undeniably Doom. The combat is still fierce, the movement still slick, but the tone has shifted toward something mythic and monstrous.

It might not click instantly for everyone, especially fans expecting another sprint through neon Hell. But give it time. Once the rhythm sets in, the fantastic medieval world of the game begins to speak to you, and The Dark Ages reveals itself as one of id’s boldest — and most rewarding — entries yet.

If this sounds like a riot of a time, head over to the Doom: The Dark Ages Steam page and grab it while it's 25% off.
