Capcom has been no stranger to collections of its older games, including the recent Capcom Fighting Collection 2, which bundles together a bunch of classic Capcom-made fighting games into a single package, with online capabilities. This isn't a new concept; Capcom has made Megaman and Ace Attorney collections in the past, and Xbox made Halo: The Master Chief Collection. While getting online to work for some of these collections has proven to be difficult, it surprises me that more companies haven't jumped on board. For this list, I decided not to worry about how likely a collection is to happen, although there aren't any legal barriers to my choices, but instead, the collections I want the most.

4 Old Mario Sports collection

Source: Nintendo

While Nintendo is pretty notorious for not releasing its old games unless it can charge full price, the company does occasionally make collections. The most recent example is the infamous Super Mario 3D All-Stars, which bundled three 3D Mario games together, but was only sold for a limited period of time. My pitch here is the games that Nintendo likely cares less about: the Mario sports games. My personal pitch is a collection of GameCube sports games, Mario Superstar Baseball, Mario Power Tennis, Super Mario Strikers, and Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour. The modern interpretations of these sports games have been lacking in terms of content and quality, so why not just put together the best versions into a single package? I wouldn't expect a ton of bells and whistles from Nintendo, but having a single package of these games on Switch 2 would be pretty sweet, although it seems like most of these might end up on the Nintendo Switch Online service.

3 Gears of War

Stop remastering the first game and give me the rest

While Xbox has not had any issue remastering the original Gears of War twice, it would be better if it packaged together all the Xbox 360 games into a single, modern package. Getting the Xbox 360 games, Gears of War, Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3, and Gears of War: Judgment into a single collection, complete with multiplayer and horde mode, into a single package would be huge for the franchise. While the more modern games are great, much of the fanbase has deep attachments to the Xbox 360 era of games, and having those with shiny new graphics and populated multiplayer servers would breathe more life into this franchise ahead of Gears of War: E-Day, which is possibly releasing in 2026. Xbox has done a great job of making these available via backwards compatibility, so the company might not feel compelled to make this collection, but it would be fantastic if it did.

2 Pokรฉmon 2D collection

Just let me buy these on a Switch 2

Nintendo and The Pokรฉmon Company seem dead set on not releasing their older Pokรฉmon games on modern platforms, but a collection of the 2D games would be fantastic. This would ideally cover the first four generations, from the original Pokรฉmon Red and Blue up through Pokรฉmon Black and White 2. A collection would be a great way to do this, because it could include the different versions of each game, including the third entry that was released for several generations, and it could even have Pokรฉmon FireRed and LeafGreen as well. While I suspect Nintendo would prefer to sell all of these individually, it's a great way to get people to buy all the versions in a single transaction, rather than nickel-and-diming players for each individual version. It's a travesty that these games are available on the Switch and Switch 2, a perfect way to play these handheld games. Nintendo and The Pokรฉmon Company are missing out on a significant number of sales by not releasing these games, and a collection would be a great way to address this.

1 Monster Hunter collection

Give me the old versions on modern hardware

Since Capcom is the main company making these collections, it only seems right to ask for another one from them. A Monster Hunter collection โ€” or two collections if they want to split up console and handheld โ€” would be fantastic for the series. While Monster Hunter has always had fans, Monster Hunter World blew the game up in a new way, resulting in over 30 million copies of Monster Hunter World and Monster Hunter World: Iceborne being sold. Capcom could package together all the ultimate versions of each game, which include more content and monsters, into a single game, with new online servers. This would enable new fans to easily revisit all the games, while long-time fans could access the classic games that first captured their hearts. Monster Hunter is a series with a long lineage, so having those games available on modern platforms would be fantastic for everyone.

More companies should make gaming collections

With remasters and remakes continuing to see massive success, there seems to be value in making older games available on modern platforms. Capcom has done a ton of these collections, so it seems like there is money to be made, and these packages don't have to be remastered or remade. Obviously, making the collections still takes time and effort to make, but I would rather have that time spent getting six games on modern platforms in their original form than a remaster of one game that costs $60.
