We'll have to wait even longer for the next Grand Theft Auto, as Rockstar Games has announced that Grand Theft Auto VI is delayed yet again. Originally set to release next May, we'll have to wait another year to play this highly anticipated game, as its new release date is in November 2026.

This is the second high-profile delay Grand Theft Auto VI has received since it was revealed in December 2023. Rockstar Games cites needing time for additional polish as the reason for the delay.

When is Grand Theft Auto 6's release date?

It's still coming out in 2026

According to an official message from Rockstar Games, the new release date for Grand Theft Auto VI is November 19, 2026. That's a nearly six-month delay from the May 26 release date ire received after being pushed out of 2025.

"We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve, the message from Rockstar Games explains. "We want to thank you again for your patience and support. While the wait is a little longer, we are incredibly excited for players to experience the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern day Vice City."

That's a fairly vague reasoning for such a lengthy delay just half a year out from release. Rockstar Games has generally been quite secretive about Grand Theft Auto VI, as its two trailers don't show gameplay and are still quite vague on story details.

We do know that it will follow the escapades of a Bonnie and Clyde-like pair of criminals named Jason and Lucia as they navigate through the criminal underworld of Vice City. The lack of information on Grand Theft Auto VI hasn't stopped it from becoming the most anticipated upcoming video game, though, making this delay all the more brutal.

Hopefully, the delay will allow Rockstar Games to release a better and more polished game. It has been running into issues during development, though. Just this month, the company found itself in hot water after firing several employees who were trying to unionize. At least the game still hasn't been pushed out of 2026.
