Microsoft has revealed a Qualcomm Snapdragon X2-powered refresh of its Surface Pro 12 and Surface Laptop 8 13.8-inch/15-inch models. This follows its reveal of the Intel Core Ultra Series 3 Surface Pro and Surface Laptop business editions in late May, and the RTX Spark Surface Laptop Ultra that Microsoft first showed off at Computex at the beginning of June. The new Surface Pro and Surface Laptop are direct follow-ups to the Snapdragon X1-powered models that launched in 2024.

Microsoft says that the Snapdragon X2 Elite 2-in-1 Surface Pro 12 13-inch offers up to 53% faster graphics performance compared to the previous generation, including up to 15.5 hours of battery life. Other new features include an OLED display option that offers deeper blacks, higher contrast, and improved color accuracy. The Surface Pro Flex keyboard and Slim Pen are back, too, with the stylus featuring new haptic feedback functionality.

The refreshed Surface Pro is available in Snapdragon X2 Plus 10-core and Snapdragon X2 Elite 12-core variants, each paired with a Hexagon NPU delivering 80 TOPS and an Adreno GPU. Memory options include 12GB, 24GB, and 64GB of LPDDR5x RAM. Lastly, Gen 4 SSD storage configurations are as follows: 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. On the design front, the new Surface Pro looks pretty much identical to its predecessor.

Colors include Platinum, Black, and a brown-like Dune that actually looks very cool in a low-key way. The refreshed Surface Pro is available now starting at $1,500.

The laptops feature a new trackpad with haptic feedback

On the Surface Laptop 8 side, the Snapdragon X2 Elite variant offers 58% more graphics power compared to the previous generation of the sleek-looking laptop, alongside up to 20 hours of battery life on the 13.8-inch version and up to 19 hours on the 15-inch version, according to Microsoft. Both versions of the Surface Laptop feature an LCD screen, though the 15-inch Surface Laptop offers a sharper display, jumping from 201ppi to 262ppi (the Surface Laptop Ultra features an OLED panel), along with 600-nit peak brightness and a 120Hz refresh rate.

Other new features include trackpad haptic feedback across Windows and various apps, just like the higher-end Surface Laptop business editions. The new Surface Laptop 13.8-inch and 15-inch models are available in Snapdragon X2 Plus 10-core and Snapdragon X2 Elite 12-core variants. Both devices are paired with Qualcomm's Hexagon NPU with 80 TOPS and an Adreno GPU.

Memory options include 16GB, 24GB, 32GB, and 64GB of LPDDR5x RAM. In terms of storage, options include a removable solid state drive (Gen 4 SSD) with capacities of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB for the 15-inch Surface Laptop, while the 13.8-inch starts at 512GB. The laptop looks very similar to its 7th-gen counterpart, so at least as far as design is concerned, not much has changed.

Like the new Surface Pro, colors include Platinum, Black, and Dune. The new Surface Laptops are available now and start at $1,600. Microsoft says both the new Snapdragon X2-powered Surface Pro and Surface Laptop variants will be coming to its Surface for Business line on July 14th. It's worth noting that both the Surface Pro 12 and Surface Laptop 8 start at $100 more than their last-gen counterparts, which were hit with a substantial price increase back in April due to the ongoing memory shortage.
