Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo (NCP) said he has spoken with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about two suspected military drones that entered Finnish airspace on Sunday morning.
Orpo told Yle that they discussed the matter during bilateral talks on Sunday evening, alongside the European Political Community (EPC) meeting in Armenia's capital, Yerevan.
"I pointed out that Finland supports Ukraine and understands its defense. But it is still unacceptable that Finnish airspace is being violated and drones stray into our airspace," Orpo said.
The PM said that Finland is well-equipped to monitor and defend its airspace against drone incursions, adding that those defence capabilities are set to be significantly strengthened in the near future.
Orpo said that following the bilateral talks, Ukraine will take further steps to prevent drones from straying into Finnish territory.
Earlier this spring, several Ukrainian drones were found in southeast Finland following Kyiv's attacks on Russian oil ports along the Gulf of Finland.
Zelensky posted a video clip of his meeting with Orpo on social media site X.
Zelensky noted that Ukraine has invited Finland to join a 'Drone Deal' agreement, and that Ukraine was prepared to share its expertise in drone tech with "those who have been strengthening us since the very beginning of the full-scale invasion".
Orpo shared Zelensky's post concerning the matter on his own X account.
At the end of April, news outlet Uutissuomalainen reported that Finland was preparing to join an international drone coalition supporting Ukraine.
However, Orpo told news agency STT on Monday that he promised Zelesnky that Finland would review and consider Ukraine's proposal.
In a separate post late last month, the Ukrainian president explained the Drone Deal.
"We have proposed to partners who support Ukraine a special format of cooperation – Drone Deals – special agreements on the production and supply of our drones, missiles, ammunition, and other in-demand types of weapons, military equipment, software, integration with partners' defense systems, as well as the provision of our expertise and the technological exchange needed by Ukraine. Today, I approved the areas for this interstate work and the development of automatic permits for businesses regarding arms exports," part of Zelensky's post on 28 April read.
On Sunday, Leningrad Oblast governor Alexander Drozdenko announced on Telegram that Ukrainian drones had attacked Russia's Baltic Sea port of Primorsk.
On Monday morning, Moscow Mayor Sergein Sobyanin announced that a drone struck a building in the city, according to Reuters, which noted that there were no reports of injuries.
Edited at 15:39 on 4 May 2026 to reflect that Ukraine has invited Finland to join the Drone Deal agreement, and that Finland is considering the matter, but has not entered the agreement.
