Tags 4-koma mangaA comic-strip format, which generally consists of gag comic strips within four panels of equal size ordered from top to bottom., comedyAnime whose central struggle causes hilarious results. These stories are built upon funny characters, situations and events. A comedy anime is laced with humour and sets out to provoke laughter from the audience. Japanese humour can be a bit strange to westerners, so if you`re new to this type of humour, just bear with it; it`ll most likely grow on you if you`re a fan of other kinds of comedy., daily lifeThe antics of the protagonists do not take place in some exotic setting or time, but in everyday life. Daily Life is basically a synonym for everything normal, repetitive, and trivial happening to your average person., mangaManga is the lifeblood that drives the anime industry. Everything and its mother is based on manga. However! There are exceptions where the manga was not the basis for the anime. See also manhua and manhwa., parodyAnime that imitate other stories (can be from TV, film, books, historical events, ...) for comic effect by exaggerating the style and changing the content of the original. Also known as spoofs. It can also refer to when whole elements of one work are lifted out of their context and reused., school lifeSince a large part of the anime audience still takes part in school life or is visiting college, it is only natural to choose a setting the audience can identify with, be it elementary, middle, or high school. For the older viewers a college setting with more mature real-life problems is appropriate. And since clubs take up so much time in the lives of students, these are obviously also important., seinenSeinen, literally "young man", is one of the main demographic classifications applied to manga, and, by extension, to anime, especially manga-based ones. As the name implies, seinen works are marketed primarily to an audience of young men; the age range commonly understood to be the target of such works goes roughly from 17 to somewhere in the 40s., the artsThe arts represent an outlet of human expression, usually influenced by culture, and driven by human creative impulse. Major constituents of the arts include literature, music, dance, and theatre; culinary arts such as baking, chocolatiering, and winemaking; media arts like photography and film, and visual arts – including drawing, painting, and sculpting. Some art forms combine a visual element with performance (e.g. film) and the written word (e.g. comics). - [similar]

It starts quite slowly on the first season, but as each season passes, the animation gets better, jokes get funnier and overall, it turns into one of the best CGDCT shows out there, and one love letter for those that love creating art.

For a series with such a simple premise, the characters are likeable and surprisingly well-written.

This was actually one of the first Shaft works that I was introduced to (before Bakemonogatari and Madoka, etc.) when Shaft entered its more "arty" style and one of the reasons that I was attracted to it.

It has a peaceful, lighthearted tone and if you like character driven slice of life comedies, you might want to pick this one up.

Overall
Hidamari Sketch is an enjoyable slice-of-life anime about four friends who attend an art school right across the street from their apartment. Featuring some of the strangest directing work (Shinbo Akiyuki: Pani Poni Dash, Negima!?, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei) along with the usual SHAFT-style animation, you'll find comfort in these cute but strongly-bonded characters and their daily quirks and habits.

Animation
Get ready for spontaneous scene switches, frames, photographs, and images. Sometimes it's better to feature moving blocks of parallel lines to indicate running up stairs than to actually draw the feet, which is why the animation is vibrant at it's best and smooth at it's strangest. This is pretty much the best work Shinbo Akiyuki has done (I haven't watched PPD and don't plan to especially with all the obscure blackboard chalk that almost no casual viewer will get, Negima!? sucked, and SZS has yet to finish it's run) and it works very well with such calm material. The only bad episode with budgeting issues is episode 10.

Sound
Well done aspects in every subcategory: OP fits the theme, ED is soothing (I always look forward to it), BGM is subtle, and the cast is amazing. Yuno always sounds clueless, Miyako hyper, Hiro concerned, and Sae desperate. Enthusiastic performances.

Story
Apparently they tried some episode shuffling via Suzumiya Haruhi just 3 seasons ago. It didn't work. Whereas Haruhi actually had a main story (Melancholy I through VI) with canon filler stories in between, Hidamari Sketch is simply school life, with the focus being a random day of every month of the year. This garners rewatch value, but I'm already lost by the time they hit episode 3. They did, however, connected the earlier episodes with the later ones, so it's all good.

The story itself is nice slice-of-life, with the focus being more on character interactions than the specific events. It drags and gets boring at times, but if you like this style you'll enjoy it.

Character
Characters are cute with distinct personalities yet they somehow bond together during their course of their stay at the apartment. Their interactions makes this show. The side characters are just as crazy (Yoshinoya-sensei is hot).

Value
An enjoyable slice-of-life show. Has rewatch value if you get confused. Otherwise, call the P***s Engine Mechanic if your nutbladder breaks.

· · art schoolThe education in art plays an important part in this anime. Art school is a general term for any educational institution with a primary focus on the visual arts, especially illustration, painting, photography, sculpture, and graphic design. The term applies to institutions with elementary, secondary, post-secondary or undergraduate, or graduate or postgraduate programs in these areas. They are distinguished from larger institutions which also may offer majors or degrees in the visual arts, but only as one part of a broad-based range of programs (such as the liberal arts and sciences). France`s École des Beaux-Arts is, perhaps, the first model for such organized instruction, breaking with a tradition of master and apprentice instruction when it was formed. (Source: Wikipedia) *+

Together with chimpanzees, gorillas, and orangutans, they are part of the family Hominidae. Terrestrial animals, humans are characterized by their erect posture and bipedal locomotion; high manual dexterity and heavy tool use compared to other animals; open-ended and complex language use compared to other animal communications; larger, more complex brains than other animals; and highly advanced and organized societies., introvertIntroverts are people whose energy tends to expand through reflection and dwindle during interaction. They tend to be more reserved and less outspoken in groups. Introverts generally enjoy time spent alone or with close friends, and find less reward in time spent with large groups of people.

Some of the typical solitary activities are reading, writing, using computers, hiking and fishing. The archetypal artist, writer, sculptor, engineer, composer, and inventor are all considered highly introverted.

Not to be confused as being shy - introverts prefer solitary activities over social ones, where as shy people (who may be extraverts at heart) avoid social encounters out of fear. Like extroversion, introversion is not a black and white measurement, and these people may share some of the same traits than extroverts.
, JapaneseA character originating from the island nation of Japan., quietCharacter remains quiet. In most cases, speaks only when spoken to.
