EMI Music Japan (formerly Toshiba EMI (東芝イーエムアイ), is one of Japan's leading music companies. It became a wholly owned subsidiary of British music company EMI Group Ltd. in 2007 after Toshiba sold off its previous 45% stake. The current CEO and president is San e-Ichii.
The company was founded on October 1, 1960 as Toshiba Musical Industries (東芝音楽工業株式会社). From 1962, it licensed Columbia (UK) titles for release in Japan. After an injection of capital by Capitol EMI, EMI divested 50% in October 1973, and the name was changed to Toshiba EMI Limited. On October 3, 1994, the equity ratio of the company was changed, in which EMI divested 55%, and Toshiba divested the remaining 45%. On June 30, 2007, Toshiba Corporation sell the remaining 45% stakes in the company to EMI, which means EMI has owned 100% of Toshiba-EMI and the Japanese branch of EMI is renamed EMI Music Japan.

Originally created on 01.10.1960 with the name Toshiba Ongaku Kougyou (東芝音楽工業) as a subsidiary to the Japanese electronics giant Toshiba. On 01.10.1973 it became a joint venture between Toshiba and the UK music label EMI and was renamed to Toshiba EMI. In 2007 Toshiba sold off all its shares within the company and Toshiba EMI became a wholly owned subsidiary of British music company EMI Group, after which it was renamed to EMI Music Japan (EMIミュージック・ジャパン).
