Chronic inflammation contributes to genomic instability, establishing a critical connection between inflammation and cancer development. As a result, targeting key inflammatory pathways has become a promising therapeutic strategy for preventing carcinogenesis. Plant-derived bioactive compounds, such as flavonoids, polyphenols, and terpenoids, exhibit diverse biological activities, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-proliferative, anti-cancer, anti-angiogenic, anti-microbial, and anti-viral effects. These phytochemicals are known to suppress the production of Nitric Oxide (NO), a major inflammatory mediator, as well as pro-inflammatory cytokines such as Interleukin-1 Beta (IL-1ฮฒ), Tumour Necrosis Factor-Alpha (TNF-ฮฑ), and Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). Key dietary source.....

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome corona virus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), which was reported by the World Health Organization in 2019. Loss of taste and smell has been identified as the key COVID-19 predictors. The aim of the present study is to evaluate prevalence of taste changes among Covid-19 patients and compare its association with immunosuppressive therapy, hospitalization and presence of co-morbidities. Material methods: In this cross-sectional study (questionnaire based) a total of 202 patients from the Vidarbha region who were infected with COVID-19 were given a pre-validated questionnaire. The questionnaire included brief history about various symptoms, taste changes during COVID-19 infection, immunosuppres.....

Cohesive Journal of Microbiology & Infectious Disease

DOI: 10.31031/CJMI.2025.08.000677

Diet, environmental exposures and aging profoundly influence the gut microbiota from early life onward. Emerging evidence underscores the microbiotaโ€™s central role in regulating metabolism, immune function and inflammation-processes that are critical determinants of health and longevity. Gut bacteria generate Short-Chain Fatty Acids (SCFAs) that support intestinal barrier integrity, modulate immune responses and attenuate inflammation. Diets rich in fiber and polyphenols enhance SCFA production and promote microbial diversity, whereas low-fiber, high-fat diets disrupt microbial balance, contributing to metabolic dysfunction and age-related disease. Diet can potentially modulate the microbiota through epigenetic mechanisms, including DNA methylation and histone modifications, thereby .....

DOI: 10.31031/CJMI.2025.07.000674

Sars-CoV-2 is a globally circulating virus chronically infecting tens of millions of people every year. In addition to individual mutations, with the advance of the Omicron variant, novel recombinant viruses are emerging. Similar to the effect of mutations on the infectivity and disease dynamics, recombination has the potential to create dangerous viruses. Despite many studies on the mutation-driven variants of SarsCoV-2, the effect of recombination on the molecular evolution of the viruses is not known. We aimed to compare the molecular evolution of the most dominant and virulent recombinant Sars-CoV-2 variant XE and its parent lineage viruses BD.1 and BA.2.30 using population genetics and phylogenetic methods. High coverage full genome sequences of XE, BD.1 and BA.2.30 viruses were obta.....

DOI: 10.31031/CJMI.2025.07.000671

Abstract The gut microbiome is essential for human health throughout life, with dietary choices affecting its composition and function at various stages. Dietary influences shape microbial diversity, metabolism, immune response, and cognitive function from early development to adulthood. This article examines how dietary exposures from fetal development to adulthood affect the gut microbiome and, consequently, impact health, disease susceptibility, and overall well-being. By investigating the connection between diet and microbial diversity, this communication seeks to emphasize potential dietary interventions for personalized health approaches, disease prevention and improvement of life quality throughout the lifespan.

Trends in Telemedicine & E-health

DOI: 10.31031/TTEH.2025.05.000623

The Covid-19 pandemic has modified the landscape of Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) services drastically in India. Tele therapy was prevalent even before the onset of Covid, however this method of service delivery was not as popular as it is now. Due to Covid-19 face to face therapy became difficulty due to vulnerability of developing infections. This further demanded SLPs to rapidly adopt tele-rehabilitation an alternate mode of service delivery. This transition was not smooth especially in the initial phase due to factors such as concerning training, infrastructure and privacy of data. Recent Indian studies have reported hurdles pertaining to the aforementioned factors. However, the rapid uptake exposed gaps in service delivery as the professionals were untrained, infrastructural .....

DOI: 10.31031/TTEH.2025.05.000619

Wearable health devices allow acquisition of patientsโ€™ vital signs and health status monitoring outside conventional medical facilities for remote medical diagnosis and rapid medical attention during emergencies. While attempting to provide real-world online medical services, researchers have developed several Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) telemedicine systems such as the conventional smart wearable health devices for vital signs monitoring readily available from the market. However, optimal exploitation of critical vital signs data acquired from these traditional devices for online medical consultations in real-time has not received adequate attention. In this paper, an IoMT-based wearable Vital Signs Monitoring Network (VIMONET) that employs the widely accepted publish/subscribe .....

DOI: 10.31031/GGS.2025.09.000712

The migration of young people from Asian countries, especially India, to the UK, other European nations, Canada and the US is largely driven by dissatisfaction with local job prospects and the desire for better employment opportunities. Kerala, known for its high literacy rates and educational focus, has become a major source of migrants, many of whom work in healthcare and information technology. However, migration also brings significant health risks, especially related to cardiovascular diseases. Research indicates that South Indian migrants, unaccustomed to colder climates, may be more vulnerable to heart issues, with higher mortality rates in areas like the Northwest of the UK, which has a large South Asian population. Additionally, the migration process itself can exacerbate health c.....

DOI: 10.31031/AJHS.2024.03.000571

There has been an emphasis on the role of vitamin D levels in the performance of the human immune system in combating diseases like COVID-19. This paper analyzes the vitamin D status pre-, amid, and post-COVID-19 and considers factors, such as age, gender, and sunny months. In this regard, a descriptive and prescriptive analysis is conducted in a case study using big data involving 420710 records collected from 2016 to 2023. Results showed most under-study people, particularly men, and individuals aged 4 to 35, suffer from vitamin D insufficiency. In addition, the mean vitamin D status of people settled in the under-study region lost its positive trend post-COVID-19 which began before and continued during COVID-19, implying the degrade of vitamin D among the public. Although the vitamin D .....

Background: Three systematic reviews all concluded that exercise is an effective treatment for long COVID. Objective: To determine if exercise therapy is also an effective treatment for long COVID patients who suffer from Post-Exertional Malaise (PEM) or Post-Exertional Symptom Exacerbation (PESE). Method: The authors analyzed the evidence from three systematic reviews, and the trials in it, that all concluded that exercise is an effective treatment for long COVID. Results and Discussion: Our reanalysis shows that there were a number of important issues with these reviews. The first systematic review reviewed the literature and investigated the benefits of exercise in healthy people. These were then extrapolated to long COVID even though one can only say something about the effica.....
