Un poids moyen = 6 pieds ou 1,8288 mètres, est une unité de longueur dans les anciens systèmes impériaux et américains habituels, spécialement utilisés pour mesurer la profondeur de l'eau. Il y a deux mètres dans un esprit impérial. Initialement basé sur la distance entre les bras tendus d'un homme, la taille d'un fathom a varié légèrement selon qu'il s'agissait d'un millième d'un milles nautiques ou d'un multiple de la cour impériale.
