Gomer était le fils aîné de Japheth, et père d'Ashkenaz, Riphath et Togarmah, selon la «Table des Nations» dans la Bible hébraïque. Le Gomé éponyme, "défendant toute la famille", comme l'ont exprimé les compilateurs de l'Encyclopédie juive, est également mentionné dans le Livre d'Ezéchiel 38: 6 comme l'allié de Gog, le chef de la terre de Magog.
