Un oblat dans le monachisme chrétien est une personne qui est spécifiquement dédiée à Dieu ou au service de Dieu. Actuellement, l'oblate a deux significations: ▪ Les Oblats sont des individus, soit des laïcs, soit des clergés, habitant normalement dans la société en général, qui, tout en ne faisant pas partie de moines ou de religieuses, se sont affiliés individuellement à une communauté monastique de leur choix. Ils font une promesse formelle et privée de suivre la Règle de l'Ordre dans leur vie privée aussi étroitement que leurs circonstances individuelles et les engagements antérieurs l'autorisent. De tels oblats ne constituent pas un ordre religieux distinct en tant que tel, mais sont considérés comme une partie étendue de la communauté monastique et, en tant que tels, ont souvent les lettres OSB après leur nom sur les documents. Ils sont comparables aux tertiaires associés aux différentes Ordres des Frères. ▪ «Oblaté» est également utilisé dans le nom officiel de certains instituts religieux comme indication de leur sens du dévouement. An oblate in Christian monasticism is a person who is specifically dedicated to God or to God's service. Currently, oblate has two meanings: ▪ Oblates are individuals, either laypersons or clergy, normally living in general society, who, while not professed monks or nuns, have individually affiliated themselves with a monastic community of their choice. They make a formal, private promise to follow the Rule of the Order in their private life as closely as their individual circumstances and prior commitments permit. Such oblates do not constitute a separate religious order as such, but are considered an extended part of the monastic community, and as such also often have the letters OSB after their names on documents. They are comparable to the tertiaries associated with the various Orders of friars. ▪ "Oblate" is also used in the official name of some religious institutes as an indication of their sense of dedication.
