Le pillard était un dispositif en bois ou en métal dressé sur un poteau, avec des trous pour attacher la tête et les mains, anciennement utilisé pour punir par humiliation publique et souvent d'autres abus physiques, parfois mortels. Le pillage est lié aux stocks. Le mot est documenté en anglais depuis 1274, et provient du vieux pellori français, lui-même du pilloria latin médiéval, d'origine incertaine, peut-être un diminutif de pila latine "pilier, barrière de pierre". The pillory was a device made of a wooden or metal framework erected on a post, with holes for securing the head and hands, formerly used for punishment by public humiliation and often further physical abuse, sometimes lethal. The pillory is related to the stocks. The word is documented in English since 1274, and stems from Old French pellori, itself from medieval Latin pilloria, of uncertain origin, perhaps a diminutive of Latin pila "pillar, stone barrier."...
