Le sonar est une technique qui utilise la propagation du son pour naviguer, communiquer ou détecter des objets sur ou sous la surface de l'eau, tels que d'autres navires. Deux types de technologie partagent le nom "sonar": le sonar passif écoute essentiellement le son fait par les navires; Le sonar actif émet des impulsions de sons et écoute des échos.
