Comic Relief
Comic Relief est une association de charité britannique, fondée en 1985 par le scénariste de comédie Richard Curtis et le comédien Lenny Henry en réponse à la famine en Ethiopie. Le point culminant de l'appel de Comic Relief est Red Nose Day, un téléthon biennal tenu en mars, en alternance avec le projet soeur Sport Relief. Comic Relief est l'un des deux événements téléthon de haut niveau organisés au Royaume-Uni, l'autre étant Children in Need, qui se tient chaque année en novembre. Comic Relief a été lancé en direct sur le spectacle tardif et tardif de Noel Edmonds sur BBC1, le jour de Noël 1985 à partir d'un camp de réfugiés au Soudan. L'idée de Comic Relief provient de la célèbre travailleuse de bienfaisance Jane Tewson, qui l'a établi comme nom d'exploitation de Charity Projects, un organisme de bienfaisance enregistré en Angleterre et en Écosse. L'organisme de bienfaisance affirme que son but est de «provoquer des changements positifs et durables dans la vie des personnes pauvres et défavorisées, ce qui, selon nous, nécessite d'investir dans un travail qui répond aux besoins immédiats des populations et s'attaque aux causes profondes de la pauvreté et de l'injustice». The highlight of Comic Relief's appeal is Red Nose Day, a biennial telethon held in March, alternating with sister project Sport Relief. Comic Relief is one of the two high profile telethon events held in the United Kingdom, the other being Children in Need, held annually in November. Comic Relief was launched live on Noel Edmonds' Late, Late Breakfast Show on BBC1, on Christmas Day 1985 from a refugee camp in Sudan. The idea for Comic Relief came from the noted charity worker Jane Tewson, who established it as the operating name of Charity Projects, a registered charity in England and Scotland. The charity states that its aim is to "bring about positive and lasting change in the lives of poor and disadvantaged people, which we believe requires investing in work that addresses people's immediate needs as well as tackling the root causes of poverty and injustice".
