Air raid alerts account for 18.6% of shopping mall operating hours in March – UCSC

2 min read

The share of time during which air raid alerts disrupted shopping mall operations in March 2026 decreased by 0.1 percentage points compared to February, to 18.6%, but remains at an extremely high level; in March 2025, this figure stood at 11%, the Ukrainian Council of Shopping Centers (UCSC) reported.

All other indicators in absolute terms (number of alerts, number of alerts during mall operating hours, total duration of alerts, and duration during operating hours) worsened, with the latter two setting negative records since the start of the full-scale war.

The five regions where shopping malls most frequently had to suspend operations in March were Donetsk region (85.5%), Sumy region (79.7%), Zaporizhia region (49.2%), Kharkiv region (41.7%), and Chernihiv region (33.8%).

On average across Ukraine, forced downtime of shopping malls due to air raid alerts has reached 142.4 working days since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, and 4.8 working days in March 2026 alone.

Since February 24, 2022, the UCSC has been publishing an interactive map of the duration of air raid alerts across the country's regions, updated monthly.

Founded in 2020, the UCSC is a non-profit organization that brings together key players in the commercial real estate market, including shopping mall owners and developers, as well as companies involved in the construction and maintenance of shopping and entertainment centers.
