Sorkheh (Persian: سرخه)[a], whose name is often interpreted as “The Red One,” is a city in the Central District[b] of Sorkheh County, Semnan province, Iran, serving as capital of the county.[7] Sorkheh was the capital of Sorkheh District[c] until its capital was transferred to the village of Lasjerd when the district was renamed the Central District in 2021.[6]

Population
[edit]At the time of the 2006 National Census, the city's population was 9,062 in 2,686 households,[8] when it was capital of Sorkheh District in Semnan County.[9] The following census in 2011 counted 9,711 people in 3,045 households.[10] The 2016 census measured the population of the city asf 9,951 people in 3,388 households,[3] by which time the district had been separated from the county in the establishment of Sorkheh County and Sorkheh became the new county's capital.[7] The district was renamed the Central District in 2021.[6]
