1. Should the article mention reports that Michael Jackson was Muslim? (No.)
No. The article should not mention reports that Michael Jackson was Muslim. Jackson had not publicly spoken about his exact religion in a number of years and only spoke about spirituality in general terms. The specific reports of a conversion ceremony for Jackson have been denied by his New York lawyer Londell McMillan.[1] They were also denied by Yusuf Islam/Cat Stevens[2] and Dawud Wharnsby[3] who were allegedly present at the ceremony. The Michael Jackson memorial service did not involve any Islamic rites. Without further details from his family or representatives, it will not be included in the article. 2. Should the "Jacko" name be mentioned in the lead? (No.)
No. The "Jacko" name should not be mentioned in the lead. Past consensus goes against such inclusion. The name is a derogatory term used primarily by US/UK/Australian tabloids. The slogan is discussed in the relevant section of the article. 3. Should the article mention that Jackson reportedly had cancer/blindness/liver disease/AIDS, etc.? (No.)
No. The article should not mention that Jackson reportedly had cancer, blindness, liver disease, AIDS, etc. Until such claims are confirmed by a Jackson representative it will not go in the article at all. These claims are largely fabricated by tabloids. 4. Should the article mention that Jackson reportedly had a secret child called Omer Bhatti? (No.)
No. This claim was denied by Bhatti [4] and only a DNA test would resolve the matter. 5. Isn't Jackson the seventh child of the Jackson family, not the eighth? (No.)
No. Marlon had a twin, Brandon, who died shortly after birth. This makes Michael the eighth child. |

Allegations
[edit]i think there should be a separate section on the abuse allegations against him. Kashish857 (talk) 14:09, 24 February 2026 (UTC)[]
- This has WP:TOPIC issues and there are several separate articles dealing in detail with the allegations and the trial.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 17:42, 24 February 2026 (UTC)[]
- I 100% agree all the abuse allegations should be in one place. Otherwise it is confusing and unhelpfulBhdshoes2 (talk) 02:36, 12 March 2026 (UTC)[]
- More broadly, I don't think the current format of this article with everything stuffed into a giant "Life and Career" chronology serves the topic. Several aspects of his life are notable enough to warrant their own sections: the abuse allegations, family, other legal matters, etc.
- I just changed a redirect that was pointing "Prince Michael Jackson" to the several-paragraph section of his biography that contains one sentence noting the birth of his son. He has a large family full of other notable individuals, that warrants a full section. I don't see how @Ianmacm can argue in good faith that any of these things would be "off-topic" in this article, and the existence of dedicated articles is an argument for a topic having a at least a dedicated section, not against it! Walkersam (talk) 17:59, 13 April 2026 (UTC)[]
- Agree. At least a 'Controversies' section or something similar. Twistybrastrap (talk) 02:23, 25 April 2026 (UTC)[]
- The practice of lumping things into a "controversies" section of a biography page is frowned upon as undue negative weight. We therefore shouldn't use that name as a title even if the focus was allegations against him that were placed under a collective heading. Honestly, one would be better off with "Sexual abuse allegations" as a title for it, but that's assuming you could even find a way to place them all under it without messing up chronology for how the 1993 and 2003 allegations affected his career. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 04:38, 25 April 2026 (UTC)[]
- Fair enough about the section heading name. I think the abuse allegations having their own section doesn't necessarily preclude references to those events in other sections and is still a good idea. As the page is now, it feels like this info is buried/obscured in his biography compared to other famous figures with similar allegations against them. Twistybrastrap (talk) 17:17, 27 April 2026 (UTC)[]
- The article, currently a Featured Article, contains three separate sections titled “Sexual abuse allegations.” High-profile biographies with similar allegations do not typically divide this topic into multiple sections, particularly at this level of article quality. In this context, the argument that the material is “buried” or “obscured” does not seem applicable, given that it is already presented across three separate sections. - I agree with having a separate section that summarises/contains all the allegations in one place. Also agree with Twistybrastrap that the abuse allegations having their own section doesn't necessarily preclude references in other sections.
- I think having three separate subsections that are scattered across "life and career" and "death" makes it difficult to read, and buries the allegations, which are pretty numerous and substantial in terms of detail (especially considering that the allegations have two separate articles of their own, 1993 Michael Jackson sexual abuse allegations and Trial of Michael Jackson, not to mention the Leaving Neverland documentary. Whether one believes or disbelieves the allegations, there should be one section that summarises them in one place. Another alternative would be making a separate wiki article for the abuse allegations. Acinonyxjubatusrex (talk) 15:42, 1 May 2026 (UTC)[]
- Come to think of it, having pre-death allegations in both "Life and career" as well as a separate collective section of those and posthumous ones would be redundant. I don't see any plausible way to avoid repeating them by giving those a heading completely detached from the section talking about what happened during his lifetime. Nevertheless, having separate sections interspersed throughout this article as it currently is arranged most certainly is NOT burying them, particularly when they are mentioned within headings. As for a separate article, there already is one for the 1993 case and the 2005 trail (based on 2003 charges). Another big page containing both of those and Leaving Neverland allegations got deleted per consensus at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Overview of Michael Jackson sexual abuse allegations. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 21:28, 1 May 2026 (UTC)[]
- Thanks for the reply and the explanation. Apologies, I realise "burying" is a pretty strong word, that's not what I intended. For what it's worth, I don't have strong feelings on the allegations either way/know much about the topic, I'm just a passer-by on this article and made my comment solely on reader experience i.e. what would be easiest to read.
- Thank you for linking the page for Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Overview of Michael Jackson sexual abuse allegations, I'll give it a read. I didn't see that one, but I did see the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Michael Jackson sexual abuse allegations (dated Sep 2024). Seems like this topic is a recurring issue. Acinonyxjubatusrex (talk) 22:14, 3 May 2026 (UTC)[]
- I agree with Snuggums in that we probably shouldn't have a separate section for the allegations, because it would duplicate the Life/career section.
- However, I maintain that Wikipedia would benefit from a dedicated area somewhere with an overview of the allegations, and that deleting that "Overview" page was a mistake. Popcornfud (talk) 12:02, 18 May 2026 (UTC)[]

Replace "Category:People charged with sex crimes" with "Category:People acquitted of crimes"
[edit]This is a more accurate category. The man was acquitted and thus does not belong in the same category as the likes of Jeffrey Epstein or Russell Brand ~2026-24053-31 (talk) 17:22, 28 April 2026 (UTC)[]
- Being acquitted does not erase the fact that he was charged. Those are two separate, documented facts that can exist at the same time.
- Categories are not moral rankings, or saying everyone in them is identical. They’re organizational tools based on facts. If the category is for people charged with sex crimes, then the question is simple: was he charged? If yes, then the category is factually correct and relevant. Replacing one fact with the more flattering one just creates an incomplete and biased picture. ~2026-26223-03 (talk) 15:58, 29 April 2026 (UTC)[]
2019 allegations in lead
[edit]The posthumous 2019 allegations are worth a mention in the lead, alongside the prior ones, as they have contributed to a debate over his musical legacy in the same way the prior allegations have done. Only a sentence or two is required, but its absence from the lead is questionable given that, in a majority modern reliable sources discussing the MJ allegations, the 2019 ones are inevitably brought up alongside the ones from 1993 and 2003.
Here is my proposed sentence to add: "In 2019, Jackson’s legacy faced renewed scrutiny following the release of the documentary Leaving Neverland, which detailed allegations of sexual abuse by two men. The film sparked a massive global debate, leading some radio stations to pull his music from the air and prompting his estate to vigorously deny the claims in a series of lawsuits."~2026-24053-31 (talk) 17:27, 28 April 2026 (UTC)[]
- I believe there was an RFC on this when Leaving Neverland came out in 2019, and it was determined to not include mention of those allegations in the lead. Basil the Bat Lord (talk) 02:40, 12 May 2026 (UTC)[]
Missing verb in Earnings section
[edit]Second paragraph:
"The executors claimed that it was worth about $7million, while the IRS that it was worth over $1.1billion."
Should be "The executors claimed that it was worth about $7million, while the IRS claimed that it was worth over $1.1billion."
Or, more concisely and with better flow: "The executors valued it at about $7 million, while the IRS valued it at more than $1.1 billion." Crash0ut (talk) 06:04, 4 May 2026 (UTC)[]

[edit]in this section someone is being quoted as saying "carefully planned plot." the sentence structure seems to imply even's said this. according to the transcripts of the conversation (https://themichaeljacksonallegationsblog.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/plugin-schwartz_chandler.pdf) he did not. someone should figure out who's being quoted and this should be edited to make clear who is being quoted. further, it should be made clear that evens claimed to have hired a lawyer so presumably he is threatening micheal jackson with legal action to ruin his life, not like... a bat to the knee... ~2026-24121-22 (talk) 05:55, 7 May 2026 (UTC)[]
Featured Article issues
[edit]So, this article's been featured since 2008, before Jackson's death. There was some review archived here for WP:URFA/2020 in 2021, and some discussions since, but I don't think all the issues raised have been addressed and the article hasn't been put through FAR either. There are, it seems, evident issues with lead length and stability (ie discussion on how the allegations should be covered). Bringing an article back to FA quality is hard and I doubt I'll be able to contribute much, but if this article can't be brought to FA standards sometime soon it really should be nominated for FAR. Erinius (talk) 17:15, 8 May 2026 (UTC)[]
- A lack of stability isn't surprising given the recent allegations made and a biopic coming out lately. As for the lead, I'll try to trim that down before digging into other issues. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 17:26, 8 May 2026 (UTC)[]
- Thank you! Erinius (talk) 18:42, 8 May 2026 (UTC)[]
- Regarding the lead, it's 458 words, but that's fine because most, if not all, feature articles are over 400, so I don't see a problem. Lililolol (talk) 23:38, 18 May 2026 (UTC)[]

The Jackson 5 Capitalization Issue
[edit]Multiple times in the text, The Jackson 5, The Jackson Brothers, and The Jacksons are referenced, with “the” being written as it would usually in the sentence. However, considering that the group’s name contains the word “The”, the “T” should be capitalized. Anything else implies that the group’s name is “Jackson Brothers”, “Jackson 5”, etcetera.
”the Jackson Brothers” -> “The Jackson Brothers” ”the Jackson 5” -> “The Jackson 5” ”the Jacksons” -> “The Jacksons”
This is by all means a nitpick, but one that may cause confusion about the group’s exact name, considering most people will learn of The Jackson 5’s existence through the Michael Jackson page. Gutzbin (talk) 12:41, 21 May 2026 (UTC)[]

Mention of posthumous allegations after "In 2005, Jackson was acquitted of further such allegations and other charges"
[edit]A brief mention of the fact posthumous allegations have been made (2019 and 2026) is good enough for lead inclusion. Those allegations have received just as much, if not more, media coverage within the last seven years. Few modern reliable sources exist that mention the ones from 1993 and 2003 without also mentioning the 2019 ones especially. Point being, the posthumous allegations are worth a brief mention in the lead. The fact a consensus was reached in 2019 does not reflect the fact the posthumous allegations have continued to be a consistent topic of conversation in MJ related news media in all the years since. With the passage of time, there should be a re-evaluation to see if they should be included or not. ~2026-32440-29 (talk) 16:22, 1 June 2026 (UTC)[]
Small changes to the lede
[edit]I don’t have any major issues with the opening paragraphs to the article, but I would add a couple things:
- In the first paragraph where it says “[t]hrough his songs, concerts, and fashion…”, I would add music videos (or short films as Jackson would put it) in that list since you can’t talk about his influence on visual performance without mentioning the music videos.
- This was something that used to be on here that I’m surprised aren’t. And that’s mentioning that the Jackson 5 became the Jacksons and how his solo career started at Motown. Unlike the biopic, I think it’s important to mention both of these things. That way you bascially have all the major “eras” down in the lede.
- Don’t know why you got rid of “behavior” when mentioning, “From the mid-1980s, Jackson came under public scrutiny for his relationships, lifestyle and changing appearance.” It is distinctly different from those other three things, and he’s been criticized plenty for that aswell. And I think having behavior and lifestyle at the end made the sentence flow better.
- Finally, when talking about his death, it mentions the music sales and internet traffic. I don’t think that’s the best way to describe the event. I think it should say that his death triggered an outpouring of grief around the world, kind of like on his actual death page. The statistics are more of a fun fact that can be written in the broader article, but this is much tighter for the lede in my opinion.
Anyways, seriously consider all these changes. Thank you. PopCultureFan125 (talk) 01:10, 7 June 2026 (UTC)[]
Most Culturally Significant Figures Of All Time
[edit]Suggestion: Change “of the 20th century” to “of all time” in the lead paragraph. I think it’d be safe to say MJ could be considered one of the most globally influential people to ever live, not just in the 20th century. PizzaManiac81 (talk) 06:22, 13 June 2026 (UTC)[]

[edit]During the late-90s to mid-2000s, Jackson faced accusations of antisemitism when he used the ethnic slur "kike" in his 1996 single "They Don't Care About Us", and a leaked audio recording of Jackson in the mid-2000s where he allegedly referred to Jews as "leeches".
