Parliament Budget Session 2026 Live Updates: A motion seeking the removal of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla was tabled in Parliament on Tuesday. Congress MP Dr Mohammad Jawed moved the resolution in the Lok Sabha, alleging that the Chair has failed to maintain the impartiality required to command the confidence of all sections of the House. During the discussion, TMC MP Mahua Moitra asked Speaker to “go, in the name of God”, saying Birla was “no longer fit to conduct the affairs of the House”.
In the resolution, Jawed accused the Speaker of disallowing the Leader of the Opposition and other Opposition leaders from speaking, making unwarranted allegations against women MPs from the Opposition, and suspending Opposition members for an entire session for raising issues of public concern. The motion also alleges that the Speaker did not rebuke ruling party members for making objectionable and derogatory remarks against former Prime Ministers.
Question hour begins in Rajya Sabha : In the Rajya Sabha, Union Health Minister JP Nadda on Tuesday responded to questions raised by members in the Rajya Sabha during Question Hour regarding Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) and issues related to their role and functioning in the public health system.
Committee reports tabled: Among the key items listed for the day are statements and reports from the Public Accounts Committee, the Standing Committee on Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, the Standing Committee on Railways, and the Standing Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs. The House will also hear a ministerial statement on the implementation status of recommendations related to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying.
While chairing the house on Tuesday, MP and member of the Panel of Chairpersons Dilip Saikia adjourned the proceedings of the Lok Sabha Budget session till 11 am Wednesday 11th March.
Nishikant Dubey slammed Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi for visiting 260 countries and defaming the country internatioanlly. Mentioning Rahul's speeches at several international universities like Harvard, California and Columbia among others, he said that Rahul delivers speeches against Modi, ECI, CBI and India when he visits abroad.
He also accused Congress for merely doing politics of vote banks when it comes to Muslim community, wherein Asaduddin Owaisi, head of AIMIM and MP from Hyderabad stood together with him and the government during Operation Sindoor, a time of 'national interest' despite both of them being 'two opposite streams of the river'. "I am a staunch RSS member, and we can not have any relation with a Muslim", he said.
Godda MP Dr Nishikant Dubey said in the parliament Tuesday, "If Narendra Modi doesn't have a child, so does that mean there is no one to defend him? He is the leader of Bharatiya Janata Party and the Prime Minister of this country. We will speak 1000 times, not one to defend him", while targeting Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi for defaming the PM several times in the Parliament.
Dubey was delivering his speech against the non-confidence motion passed against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
India has revised fiscal deficit ratios upward for FY23-FY25 after introducing a new GDP series with 2022-23 as the base year, the government told Parliament.
In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said the fiscal deficit now stands at 6.7% of GDP for FY23, 5.7% for FY24 and 4.9% for FY25.
The revised estimates follow the release of the updated GDP series on February 27, replacing the earlier base year of 2011-12.

While chairing the house on Tuesday, MP and member of the Panel of Chairpersons Sandhya Ray extended the proceedings of the Lok Sabha session till 7 pm Tuesday.
The Union Minister of Food Processing Industries and National President, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) Chirag Paswan targeted opposition while talking against the non-confidence motion against Speaker Om Birla.
He slammed Congress for not instating any portrait of Dr BR Ambedkar in the house, although they claim to be the saviours of Constitution drafted under the supervision of Baba Saheb Dr BR Ambedkar. He also mentioned that Congress only asks for its rights, and never talk about fulfilling its own duties.
Paswan slammed opposition to always work towards misleading the country. "They always mislead the nation. They did the same during CAA by misleading the Muslim community that it was a citizenship snatching act, although it was a citizenship granting act. Whose citizenship has been snatched? Tell me", he said adding "They are doing the same thing now with SIR."
Shiv Sena MP from Kalyan, Maharashtra, Shrikant Eknath Shinde opposed the non confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla by saying that the opposition's policy is always to oppose the nation, both inside and outside the Parliament.
He added that there would always be opposition to them if they continue to stand on their anti-national policies and intentions. "If you stand here to speak against the country, the army, you will be interrupted for not twenty, but 200 times", he said.
TMC MP Mahua Moitra, while targeting Speaker Om Birla in the Parliament on Tuesday said, "It is richly ironic and 'divine karma' that I, a lady MP, who was illegally witch-hunted by this misogynistic government", and who was "disallowed to speak a single word in the Parliament, where the speaker, in violation of every principle of natural justice did not allow me to defend myself", am "opening the debate for my party in a motion of no confidence against that very speaker. You can't run away from Karma"
Priyanka Gandhi, while responding to Kiren Rijiju's remarks in Parliament said, "It is funny that those who criticize Nehru every day and night have themselves quoted PM Nehru in their own favour today! Suddenly, they realized that Pandit Nehru has strengthened the largest democracy, the most."
She added that she laughed on Rijiju's speech because there is only one man in this country who has not bowed down in front of the government, the leader of the opposition Rahul Gandhi. He speaks truth in the Parliament resolutely, which they cannot digest.
MP Mahua Moitra, while taking a dig at speaker OM Birla said in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday said, "Speaker sir, you are no longer fit to conduct the affairs of this house".
She ended her speech by addressing the speaker and quoting Oliver Cromwell's remarks he gave while dissolving the 'Rump Parliament' in 1653 and what UK Conservative Backbencher told the British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain in 1940, "You have sat too long here for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!"
The Lok Sabha on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, approved amendments to the insolvency law and the Companies Act. As per PTI sources, various amendments to the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) and the Companies Act, 2013, were implemented by the corporate affairs ministry.
The ministry had introduced the bill in the Lok Sabha in August 2025 and had proposed amendments to the changes in the provisions related to the time taken for admission of insolvency resolution applications.

A 27 per cent reservation for the OBC in direct recruitment to Centre civil posts and services was announced in the Lok Sabha. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) implemented this policy under an Office Memorandum dated September 8, 1993, along with subsequent instructions.
"Government has a reservation policy through OM (office memorandum) dated 8.9.1993 of the Department of Personnel and Training and other instructions issued from time to time, under which 27 per cent of vacancies in direct recruitment to civil posts and services under the government are reserved for OBCs (Socially and Educationally Backward Classes)," said Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment B L Verma in a written statement.

Responding during the debate on the resolution against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the Congress should refrain from commenting on the Parliamentary Affairs Minister and instead reflect on its own record during the 60 years it was in power.
Rijiju said the Speaker acts in the interest of the House and is guided by rules and parliamentary conventions. He added that the Speaker’s decisions cannot be challenged in any court of law.
The Lok Sabha resumed proceedings after the lunch break, with Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi speaking on the resolution seeking the removal of Speaker Om Birla. During the debate, Gogoi alleged that the Speaker had breached the neutrality expected of the Chair.
He claimed that Birla had advised the Prime Minister not to be present in the Lok Sabha during proceedings, arguing that such actions undermine the impartiality required of the Speaker while presiding over the House.
The Lok Sabha has been adjourned till 2PM for a lunch break. Discussion to continue after the break.

Airline company Air India’s workforce has been 'modernised' following its privatisation, with younger and more skilled employees aligned with 'private-sector performance metrics', the government informed Parliament on Monday.
In a written reply to a query on the measures taken to safeguard employment conditions and passenger service standards under the new management, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said in the Rajya Sabha that the airline has reshaped contracts, hired new staff and offered exit options for untenured employees to improve operational efficiency.
The Tata Group acquired Air India from the government in January 2022, and the airline has since undertaken fleet upgrades, route expansion and IT overhauls as part of its transformation strategy.

Iran had sought India’s permission for three of its ships to dock at Indian ports, and the request was approved the following day, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar told Parliament.
In a statement in Parliament, Jaishankar said one of the vessels, IRIS Lavan, docked at Kochi port on March 4.'The disclosure comes amid heightened tensions in the Indian Ocean region following the sinking of an Iranian warship by the United States last week. This is also the first time a senior minister has confirmed Irans request to dock its ships at Indian ports.

India’s inter-regional power transmission capacity is set to increase to 143 GW by 2027 and further to 168 GW by 2032, the government informed Parliament on Monday.
In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Power Shripad Naik said the capacity currently stands at about 120 GW as of December 2025 and is being expanded to support growing electricity demand.
The government expects peak electricity demand to reach around 388 GW by 2032, with plans to significantly expand the national transmission network.
However, Naik noted that delays in some inter-state transmission system projects have occurred due to Right of Way (RoW) issues affecting about 25 projects.

More than 24,000 MW of 'coal and lignite' based power capacity is at various planning stages in India, with more thermal projects under construction to meet future demand, the government informed Parliament on Monday.
In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Power Shripad Naik said 39,545 MW of thermal power capacity is currently under construction, including 4,845 MW of stressed projects.
The government has identified an additional 24,020 MW of coal and lignite capacity for future development as part of plans to meet rising electricity demand.
India’s thermal power capacity requirement is projected to reach about 307,000 MW by 2034-35, up from around 211,855 MW installed capacity as of March 2023.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is examining the Calcutta Stock Exchange’s application seeking voluntary exit from stock exchange operations.
SEBI has set up a working group and appointed a valuation agency to assess the Calcutta Stock Exchange’s (CSE) assets and liabilities, while awaiting additional information from the exchange.
Trading on the CSE has been suspended since April 2013, and it applied for voluntary exit in February 2025 after failing to meet regulatory requirements.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman says rising global crude oil prices are unlikely to significantly impact India’s inflation, which is currently near the lower bound.
Responding to a written question in the Lok Sabha, Sitharaman said crude prices rose from $69.01 to $80.16 per barrel between late February and early March amid West Asia tensions.
She noted retail inflation has declined to 1.8% in 2025-26 so far, with January inflation at 2.75%. The government and RBI, she added, have taken fiscal and policy measures to keep prices stable.

Amid noisy scenes in the Lok Sabha on the opening day of the Parliament’s Budget session, proceedings were adjourned until 11 am on Tuesday. The House had briefly resumed in the afternoon following an earlier adjournment, but continued disruptions and protests by members forced the Chair Jagdambika Pal to suspend proceedings for the day.

"The PM has personally spoken to leaders of Gulf countries. He received assurances that the well-being of Indians will be a priority for host governments. We will continue the high level communications," said S Jaishankar while addressing Lok Sabha.
Addressing the conflict in West Asia, S Jaishankar said that the Indian embassy has facilitated the relocation of Indian students in Iran to places outside Teheran. The embassy in Iran remains fully functional. It remains committed to help Indians who want to cross over. Every Indian embassy in the region has issued advisories. "The MEA has set up a dedicated team for this. Wherever there has been a partial opening of the airspace, we have started commercial flights. 67,000 people have availed of the opportunity, " he said.
EAM S Jaishankar in Lok Sabha said, "We have sadly lost two Indian mariners and one is missing. The government has been assessing the situation. We advised Indian nationals to avoid travel to Iran. Those already there were advised to register with the embassy. They have been asked to leave Iran in whatever way possible."
