IPL 2026, MI vs KKR highlights: Mumbai beat Kolkata by six wickets in Wankhede

I think have said this before also. I like challenges and this was one of the challenging situations that I had to bowl in, especially sixth over. Boult and Bumrah bowling upfront, Hardik, you'd expect some wickets, but today it didn't happen for us. So coming in and bowling that sixth over, it was a bit challenging. Challenges are what has made me till now and I enjoy it. So I think today was one of those performances. This ground has given me bitter and sweet memories both actually and to come and play for Mumbai Indians, it is special playing on home ground. I was a net bowler and an upcoming boy who has been with the team in 2010, 2011, 2012 seasons. Quietly bowling here, making my mark and since then it was always going to happen, but it finally happened that I am in Mumbai Indians playing for my home team, so it feels special. I will be very happy if I stay here. It's home city and the kind of backing that I had coming here, it was amazing. So, thank you to the entire Mumbai Indians family also for backing me, trading me from LSG and straightaway awarding me in the first game. (Don't mind the Lord memes?) No, I like it because it's a name given by people and when people call me by that name, I feel very happy because that's the way they show love. It's not a meme meme, but actually a positive thing that happens around our lives because every time coming here, playing those tough games, there will be a lot of criticism coming. But with that, when you perform, there will be love shown by people and I think it's just one of those things and it's their way of showing love towards me.

Feeling okay, just a lot of cramps to my calf and both the calves actually. So hopefully I'll be okay. I mean, just a lot of cramps. It was really tough. I thought 220-225 was a good total. We batted really well, but again, it's an inexperienced bowling attack. These boys will learn. Playing against Mumbai Indians, strong batting lineup, it's a really learning curve for us. Apart from Vaibhav, Karthik, Muzarabani new to IPL, two experienced spinners, but I thought Mumbai Indians batted well. So our bowlers will definitely learn. (On his batting) I'm still young, 37, I'm still young, feeling good, but yeah, struggling with my cramps. Happens in Mumbai, a lot of humidity, but really happy the way I'm batting at the moment. (On the bowling department) I think when hopefully Green starts to bowl soon, the combination will slightly be different. At the moment, we have to see the balance, guys who can bowl well for us, batting-wise, as I said, we batted really well, but finding that balance with the ball is really important. So hopefully, Green starts to bowl soon, combination-wise we'll be okay. (Why can't Green bowl yet?) That question you need to ask to Cricket Australia. A lot of positives from the batting side. I thought Kartik Tyagi also bowled well, played a game after a while. I thought he was really good. So yes, as I said, a lot of positives and lots to learn as well.

Kolkata have started to find their radar with the slower ones in the last few overs, but it has come a bit too late for him. Once again, it is the combination they have picked up with an extra spinner for this wicket that is a bit questionable. They had the option of Navdeep Saini and Umran Malik, both of whom are pretty quick, and their bowling on this wicket would have been handy, especially at this stage of the innings, where the deliveries into the surface are responding to the ball. However, this game is not over yet. Kolkata are just hanging in there.

It is all unfolding pretty quickly here for Kolkata. After what happened yesterday and what is happening here right now, the teams batting first will be under even more pressure to assess what a good score is. As we update, Kolkata has picked up the wicket. Kathik Tyagi has threatened to get one all evening, and he picked up Surya. It was a top catch from Rinku on the boundary. It did seem like it would be sailing over six, but the judgment of where the boundary line was was exceptional from Rinku. Tilak Varma is the new batter in with two lefties in KKR, might bowl Narine next over.

The Mumbai Indians are cruising in this chase at the moment; they are just controlling the tempo of this game. There was an opportunity for Vaibhav Arora at the square-leg in the previous over when Rickelton pulled one of Tyagi, but Arora could not complete the catch. Varun Chakarvarthy has come into the attack; he has not settled here yet again. Kolkata usually tends to bank on him and Narine to control those middle overs, but Chakarvarthy's form has been on a dip, and he has started poorly today as well.

Rohit Sharma has scored his fastest fifty of the IPL here. He did it in 23 balls, and he has always played some majestic shots through the knocks, and the standout one has been a six over extra cover against Sudeep Tyagi. He slapped five sixes in this innings and has put Mumbai in an exceptional position in the powerplay here to start with. Ryan Rickelton has played a nice second Fidel here, too. Sunil Narine has come into the attack, and Kolkata will be hoping that he will do some magic here with his four over spell.

Rohit has just played his trademark six over the mid-wicket and got his innings underway here. The way Vaibhav has bowled here, it has not been easy for the Mumbai Indians to get going right away, but as we update, Rickelton has smashed the second six of the over. It was over extra-cover. It is a pretty elegant shot from the left-hander. Ajinkya Rahane might be contemplating bringing in Sunil Narine here in the next over as Rickelton similar to Quinton De Kock has had his fair share of issues against the off-spinner.

I think it’s a good track for batting, but the slower ball offers some assistance to the bowlers. So I think it’s just about on par. If we bowl well, we will win this game. Luckily there was a timeout at that moment (when I was struggling a bit). Abhishek sir (Abhishek Nayar) and Rahane kept telling me to stay strong, watch the ball, and not take too much pressure. In Wankhede, runs will keep coming. That really helped me. (Favourite shot) Sweep shot off Jasprit. There’s not much in it for the spinners, but our spinners can bowl even on glass.

Half-century here for Raghuvanshi, a brilliant innings for the batter. He did start a tad bit slowly, but as he went along, he picked up the pace and hit some lusty blows. As we update, Hardik Pandya has picked up the wicket of Raghuvanshi. Seemed like a slower one, and he tried to loft through the cover region and got the under-edge and Tilak Varma on the boundary completes the catch. Well he did the job though. KKR will still need to get another 20-25 runs here because the wicket looks exceptional to bat on and Mumbai too does have a pretty long batting line up.

Ajinkya Rahane was the last man to fall after three tight overs in a row. Hardik Pandya has turned to Shardul Thakur, who has been superb tonight, and he bowled a scramble seam delivery into the surface, which Rahane tried to hit and was caught in the ring. That is a massive wicket under the circumstances. Rinku Singh is the new batter in for Kolkata. He is the first left-hander in this lineup. As we update, Rohit Sharma has dropped a catch of Ghazanfar here. He did misjudge that catch on the boundary and to add salt to the wound Raghuvanshi slammed the next ball for a six.

This has been a marvellous innings from Rahane. He did not have a good season last year, both as captain and as a player, with the standards he has set earlier, but today he has laid the marker right away. He got a couple of loose ones early on against Boult in the slot, and then his innings just got going. It will be intresting to see how he will handle this innings from here on do he will continue to just keep going or slow down a bit and try and bat till the end building partnerships along the way. The batters at the other end in that case have to slam cameos because it does look like 230 wicket from here on.

Well, a strategic time-out has been opted for here, and Mumbai's bowling has taken a pasting here in the first seven overs. Usually, the wicket at Wankhede, at least in the early stages of the tournament, favours the bowlers a bit, but this one has been quite batting-friendly, at least that is what it seemed like. We will only find out after KKR too will bowl in the second innings. Well, 40 minutes into the campaign, Hardik Pandya has some serious thinking to do as a captain because at the current rate KKR are batting 250 will be an achievebale total from here on.

Mumbai has turned to Ghazanfar early in the piece. It is a bit of a strange call from Hardik to start with, because there is plenty of grass on the wicket, having said that, it is doing absolutely nothing, the ball is coming nicely onto the bat, and KKR openers are feasting on the Mumbai bowlers here. Allen hit a couple of sixes into the stands off Ghazanfar who bowled back-of-lenght which the batter waited and slammed into the leg-side and Rahane smoked a couple against Hardik. It has been boundary hitting start for Kolkata here in Mumbai.

The Mumbai Indians have had their huddle. More than Mumbai winning their first game since 2013, it is a test of Kolkata Knight Riders the side. They do have a decent side do the Knight Riders but they have been stacked upon on too well in too many similar positions and too little in others.

We were looking to bowl, never seen this amount of grass at Wankhede. Preparations have been good, couple of camps in Kolkata and in Mumbai as well. Know that MI is a champion team and we're looking forward to be playing against them. Just stay at the moment and don't look at the past. Mumbai wins toss and opts to bowl first vs Kolkata at Wankhede

Back in 2008, when the league was still finding its feet, MI was built on hope and star power. At their heart was Sachin Tendulkar, already such a talismanic figure in the game. Yet, for all the promise, the initial years were restless. MI won matches, but not the type which shaped legacies.

This offers captain Hardik Pandya his best chance yet to end the team’s dry spell and re-establish their identity as a dominant force, beginning with their opening match against KKR.
